Tell Students: Where to Register to Vote on Campus

Buffalo State is a Voter-Friendly Campus, and the Civic and Community Engagement Office is joining with Voice Buffalo to support efforts this fall to register, educate, and mobilize voters in advance of the November 8, 2022, general election.

Students looking to register to vote or update their voter registration information can do so in a number of ways:

  • By visiting the Civic and Community Engagement or Voice Buffalo table in the Campbell Student Union on Thursday, October 6, or Thursday, November 3, between 11:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
  • By completing a voter registration form in the Civic and Community Engagement Office, South Wing 120, Monday through Friday, between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
  • By registering online with the DMV.
  • By downloading, printing, and mailing the voter registration form (English, PDF, 306 KB) (Spanish, PDF, 310 KB).

2022-2023 'Conversations in and out of the Disciplines' Series

The 2022–2023 “Conversations in and out of the Disciplines” series kicks off Friday, October 21, as Joe Cleary, assistant professor of sociology, presents “Ethnography on the East Side before, during, and after a Tragedy.” The talk, followed by a brief Q&A, will begin at 3:00 p.m. in Ketchum Hall 320. A short wine and cheese reception will follow. Everyone is welcome.

Please also mark your calendars for the second talk of the fall semester, when Marcus Watson, assistant professor of Africana studies, will present “Making Sure We Teach Black Studies, Not ‘Negro Studies’” at 3:00 p.m. Friday, November 4, in Ketchum Hall 320.

Finally, stay tuned for more information about our upcoming talks this spring, which will include presentations by Hilary Lochte, assistant professor of English education; Kimberly Kamper-DeMarco, assistant professor of psychology; and A. D. Annas, associate professor and director of television and film arts.

The “Conversations” series was started 15 years ago by Ann Colley, SUNY Distinguished Professor Emerita of English, to “celebrate and draw attention to the research being done in various departments at Buffalo State College.” Over the last decade, colleagues from Anthropology, Art Conservation, Art History, Biology, Chemistry, English, History, Mathematics, Philosophy, Political Science, and Secondary Education, among others, have shared their work with the Buffalo State and Buffalo communities.

Open Forum 4: Candidate for AVP for Marketing and Communications - Today

Matthew Heidt, a finalist for the position of assistant vice president for marketing and communications, will give a presentation at an open forum today, August 19, at 11:00 a.m. in Bulger Communication Center 214. He currently serves as assistant vice president for marketing and chief communications officer at Hilbert College.

He will discuss marketing Buffalo State College as an urban-engaged campus, leveraging its limited fiscal resources, and using appropriate media platforms to tell the college’s story. The campus community is invited to attend, to ask questions, and to complete a short survey about the candidate.

Patrick Broadwater, a finalist for the position of assistant vice president for marketing and communications, will give a presentation at an open forum today, August 16, at 1:00 p.m. in Bulger Communication Center 214. He is currently the director of strategic communications at the University of Rochester School of Nursing.

He will discuss marketing Buffalo State College as an urban-engaged campus, leveraging its limited fiscal resources, and using appropriate media platforms to tell the college’s story. The campus community is invited to attend, to ask questions, and to complete a short survey about the candidate.

Planned Water Interruption in Bacon Hall: August 17, 18

Posted:

Water and steam service to Bacon Hall will be shut down from 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 17, to 6:00 p.m.  Thursday, August 18. This planned service interruption will facilitate the replacement of mechanical systems in the building.

There will be no access to water in Bacon Hall during this time. Building occupants and visitors will be unable to use restrooms, sinks, or drinking fountains. Bacon Hall occupants are asked to use facilities in adjacent buildings during the service disruption on August 17 and 18.

Anne Frank Project Campus Training: Story-Based Learning - August 22-24

The Anne Frank Project will offer campus training with a series of kinesthetic workshops in its story-based learning (SLB) curriculum, using story as a vehicle for community building, conflict resolution, and identity exploration. This training is free and open to all members of the Buffalo State community interested in incorporating SBL in their professional lives. Dates are as follows:

  • Monday, August 22, 1:00–4:00 p.m., Campbell Student Union Assembly Hall
  • Tuesday August 23, 1:00–4:00 p.m., Campbell Student Union Assembly Hall
  • Wednesday August 24, 1:00–4:00 p.m., Campbell Student Union 400

Submit Awards and Grants for Faculty and Staff Recognition Ceremony

Faculty and staff members are invited to submit their awards, honors, and grants information for print in the annual Faculty and Staff Recognition Ceremony program. Awards and grants received or announced September 1, 2021, through August 31, 2022, and meeting the criteria below will be listed in the program that is distributed at the ceremony.

  • Submit awards and honors from academic, professional, or service organizations at the international, national, or state levels. Do not include awards received from Buffalo State College, the City of Buffalo, or local or Western New York–area organizations.
  • Submit significant grants of $50,000 and above, received or announced during the stated period.
  • Submit SUNY awards, such as the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence, received while serving at other SUNY institutions during any career point. Do not include SUNY awards received while serving at Buffalo State.

Additionally, the names of newly hired faculty and staff members—initially hired September 1, 2021, through August 31, 2022—will be included in the printed program as a welcome to Buffalo State.

The online submission forms are open through Friday, September 2.

The campus community is invited to attend the Faculty and Staff Recognition Ceremony on Thursday, October 13, at 12:15 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center at Rockwell Hall, where the 2022 SUNY and Buffalo State honorees will be recognized. A reception immediately follows. The list of honorees and ceremony information is provided on the Academic Affairs website.
