Pancakes for Pittsburgh

The Newman Center at Buffalo State College invites all faculty, staff, and students to a Pancake Breakfast on Sunday, March 8, at 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. The cost is just $5 for adults and $3 for children and includes pancakes, sausage, juice, coffee, and tea. All proceeds benefit the Spring Break Service Trip to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. So come enjoy a wonderful breakfast at an even greater price!

Faculty Presentation: Teaching Traditional Content in Transformational Ways

Join a discussion about engaging preservice teachers in using innovative approaches in their teaching. CASTL Fellow Adrienne Costello will give a presentation on her research titled “21st Century Shakespeare: Integrating Traditional Literature with Innovative Practice.” A panel of representatives from several education programs will then share ideas and respond to questions and comments based on their approaches to working with preservice teachers.

Nominations for Faculty and Staff Diversity Awards

The President’s Council on Equity and Campus Diversity is seeking nominations for the 2009 Awards to Faculty and Staff for the Promotion of Respect for Diversity and Individual Differences. Students are encouraged to nominate faculty, librarians, and professional staff who have helped them increase their understanding and respect for diversity and individual differences through classroom assignments, discussions, and curricular or co-curricular experiences.

Women's Studies Research Symposium

The campus community is cordially invited to attend this year's Women's Studies Research Symposium, to take place on Thursday, March 5, in Butler Library 210. Sessions will include two poster presentations at 9:30 a.m.; a roundtable on the VAWOC grant and the Girls' Athletic League at 10:00 a.m.; three literature papers at 11:00 a.m.; two papers on gender inequality at 12:30 p.m.; a roundtable on gender performance at 1:30 p.m.; two papers on the intersection of racial and social identities at 2:30 p.m.; and two papers on women's historical attempts to gain personal and professional legitimacy at 3:30 p.m.
