Ready, Set, Click!: An Introduction to Student Response Systems

Participate in a demonstration of TurningPoint student response systems using both clickers and other devices such as cell phones. Learn the characteristics of good clicker questions, examine examples requiring higher order thinking, and see how to create questions for classroom use. Discuss both pedagogical and classroom management implications and strategies. This workshop will conclude with a hands-on portion during which participants will create sample questions, administer them to the group, and analyze the results. You are welcome to bring your own laptop if you would like to download the software and save your sample files. Join workshop leaders Tim Sager and Joe Zawicki on Thursday, May 27th from 9:00–11:30 a.m. in Bulger N2B.

Don't Throw it Out, Recycle It!

As students are moving out for the summer, Evergreen will be doing its annual collection of appliances, food, clothing, and furniture from the residential halls. The collection will be held daily May 10–14, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. All of the items collected are donated to local nonprofit organizations. The trucks will be centrally located outside of the buildings.

Online Survey Tools Workshop

Learn how online survey tools can enhance your teaching and research. Create, administer, and analyze simple surveys using two free online survey tools: Google Docs and Survey Monkey. Explore advantages and disadvantages of the two tools. This is a hands-on session led by Mark McBride and space is limited.

Buffalo ReUse Tool Library Needs Your Gently Used Tools

Do you have tools you never use? Those tools can be donated and put to good use via a new initiative of the Buffalo ReUse organization. The group is currently building tool lending sites at three Buffalo locations. A donation drive is now on to build up their inventory. Tools should be in usable condition. Of particular need are: clamps, vice grips, torx/ratchet, drill bit sets, and garden tools. Monetary donations are always welcome.

EOP Honors Convocation Today

EOP celebrates the exemplary academic performance of outstanding students at the annual Honors Convocation, today, Thursday, May 6, at 3:30 p.m. in Rockwell Hall Auditorium. This year's theme is "Imagine, Believe, Achieve: Citizens of the World, Lending a Helping Hand”. The program is dedicated to the memory of Dr. Patrick J. Hartwick, ’78, ’84, a renowned educator and EOP alumnus who tragically lost his life during the earthquake in Haiti while on a “Journey of Hope” mission.

Spring 2010 Grading Window Dates

Faculty will enter their spring 2010 grades using Banner. The grading window will open Monday, May 10, at 10:00 a.m. and close Wednesday, May 19, at 9:00 p.m. In preparation, faculty are encouraged to logon to Banner to be sure that all of their courses are listed under their account. Afro-Haitian Drumming Workshop

Haitian musician Franck Desire will lead a drumming workshop today, Thursday, May 6, during Bengal Pause in the Perry Quad (Rain location: Rockwell Hall 107). The event is free and open to everyone, drums are provided! From 5:00 to 5:45 p.m., Desire will discuss Haitian music in Rockwell Hall 107. Again, all students and members of the public are welcome. These events are made possible by a program grant from the Equity and Campus Diversity Office.
