Faculty Workshop: Creating a Teaching Portfolio

Consider creating a teaching portfolio as part of your promotion and tenure process. Teaching portfolios are one way to document both growth in teaching and changes in course content and pedagogy. Sample portfolios from a variety of academic areas will be shared. Light refreshments will be available. Attend either Tuesday, December 1, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. or Wednesday, December 2, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. in Bulger Communication Center 104.

Call for Proposals: Women's Studies Research Symposium

The Women's Studies Interdisciplinary Unit will host a Research Symposium featuring student, faculty, and staff work on Thursday, March 5, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in E. H. Butler Library 210. We seek papers, roundtable sessions, and poster presentations on women's and gender issues. Please submit a brief (200-500 word) description of your project; a list of other people with whom you have worked on this project; a resume or short CV; and a cover letter that explains both your topic and your commitment to the field of Women's Studies in hard copy form to Jennifer Ryan, Women’s Studies Coordinator, Ketchum Hall 304.

Faculty Workshop: Gathering Mid-Semester and Other Feedback from Students

Research shows that gathering and responding to student feedback during the semester results in better end-of-semester student evaluations. Learn guidelines for gathering student feedback during the semester; examine a variety of feedback forms and rubrics designed to collect data that can be used to improve your teaching; apply strategies for analyzing and summarizing rubric results in a useful manner; and, share less formal ways to gather and respond to student feedback.

Electronic Recycling Event

Computers, electronics, and textiles will be accepted for recycling on Saturday, January 17, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Buffalo State. The drop-off site will be located in Lot G via Grant Street. The program, for residential households only, is co-sponsored by Erie County and the City of Buffalo.

Annual Design Faculty Exhibition and Reception

The annual Design Faculty Exhibition is currently on display in the Upton Gallery through October 9. This exhibit features works by our faculty in ceramics, fibers, metals/jewelry, wood/furniture, communication design and design foundations. Join us this Thursday, September 24 from 5 - 7 p.m. for our reception at the Upton Gallery. Meet the design faculty, view their wonderful work and share refreshments. UUP Individual Development Awards

UUP represented employees are reminded that the deadline to submit applications for 2009-2010 Individual Development Awards is Friday, January 8, 2010. This State of NY/United University Professions Joint Labor-Management program provides awards up to $1000 funding for professional development activities completed between July 2, 2009 and July 1, 2010. A total of $35,309 will be distributed in awards this year. Applications and guidelines are available online.
