Applications and nominations are requested for students to be considered for the following student awards. The deadline for nominations is Friday, November 13, 2009.

The Buffalo State College Foundation held its 12th Annual Golf and Tennis Scholarship Classic on September 14 at the Brookfield Country Club. This was our most successful year ever, netting over $75,000. We would like to thank our presenting sponsor, BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York and all those who supported the event.

Would you like to be part of an interdisciplinary writing group? You can chose a group that meets on a regular basis to write, a group that meets to provide feedback on manuscripts, or a group that does both. The goal of the writing groups is to support faculty in the production and publication of their scholarly works. New groups will begin as soon as next week.

The McNair Scholars Program at Buffalo State is seeking high achieving undergraduate students from all majors. The program prepares students for graduate study through a variety of scholarly and research activities. Please inform any student you feel qualifies for this program.

If your department is granting scholarships please be aware that, per NCAA Division III regulations, athletics ability or participation in athletics cannot be taken into account in the awarding of scholarships to our students. The Graduate School will host its fall Open House on Saturday, September 12, between 10:00 a.m. and noon in the Campbell Student Union Social Hall. The Graduate Open House is for prospective graduate students to learn about our programs, meet our faculty, find out how to apply, explore financial aid opportunities, and tour the campus. Student support representatives will also be on hand to answer questions

The Graduate School will be hosting a New Student Orientation Program Monday, August 10, 2009, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Bulger Communication Building. Pre-registration begins at 4:15 p.m.

There are two more orientation programs left before classes start! Transfer Transitions will be held on Thursday, August 13. First-year Orientation for all new first-year students will be from Tuesday, August 25, to Friday, August 28. For more information on these events, please visit our Web site.

Buffalo State is in the beginning stages of developing a facilities master plan that will help the college to plan its site and facilities for the next 10 years. The campus community is invited to attend an informational meeting about the master plan process on Wednesday, December 9, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. in Cleveland Hall 418.
