Portion of Rees Street closed this week

For the duration of this week, March 29-April 2, a portion of Rees Street will be closed to accommodate underground utility work for the new student housing building.

The road closure will occur between the student housing construction site and Campus West, ending before the pedestrian spine to the north, and before the construction site entrance to the south. The closure will not impact Rockwell Road. Please visit www.buffalostate.edu/construction for more information about campus construction projects, and email VPFM@buffalostate.edu with any questions.

27th Annual International Cultural Fiesta to Benefit Haiti

An evening of international food and performances, including a cultural fashion show, is being hosted by the Buffalo State College International Student Organization (ISO) on April 10 in the Performing Arts Center at Rockwell Hall.

Two ticket options are available: $5 for the performance from 6 to 8:30 p.m.; $8 for the performance and international buffet dinner after the show in the Campbell Student Union Social Hall. A portion of proceeds will benefit the college’s Haiti Relief Fund. Tickets are on sale now at the Rockwell Hall box office. Performances will include dance, voice and instrumentals representing a range of cultures, including Middle Eastern, Asian, Irish, Polish, Native American, Malaysian, African American, Indian and Haitian. Students from Buffalo State and the community will perform.

For the dinner buffet, students in the National Society for Minorities in Hospitality (NSMH) will provide a buffet of international foods, starting with soup and salad, followed by three main courses. Buffalo State students will serve and bus the event.

Over 700 Runners Participate in Bengal 5K

More than 700 participants took part in the 13th annual Liberty Mutual Insurance Bengal 5K Run and Fun Walk held Saturday, March 20 to benefit the Alumni Association's Legacy Scholarship Fund.

Raymond Mock was the top male Buffalo State student with a time of 16:30, good for 6th overall. Amber Ciofi won the top female Buffalo State student in 19:45. Andrew Garrity took top honors in the faculty / Staff category with a time of 19:05. Joshua Demars took first among the alumni in 16:35. The top overall runner was Seth Yernye in 15:29. Jess Nowak was the top female runner in 18:44.

The Legacy Scholarships are awarded annually to Buffalo State students who are children and grandchildren of alumni. For more information, contact Tom Koller, associate athletics director and 5K race director, at kollertc@buffalostate.edu

Fall 2010 Registration Information

Students can now view their registration start date in Banner under "Registration Status”, see their holds, if any, and search fall courses. Registration Start Dates are between April 7th and April 19th inclusive for current students. Registration begins at 6:00am on each start date and is then continuous.

Students can see course listings by searching in Banner under LOOK UP CLASSES. Students may also see the fall 2010 master schedule online at http://www.buffalostate.edu/registrar/x728.xml. The online fall 2010 master schedule will be updated each weekday evening until July 28, 2010.

Continuing students registered for spring 2010 are expected to register for fall 2010 within two weeks of their registration start date. All undergraduates are encouraged to register for at least 15 credit hours for fall to assist them in graduating on time.

Order Commencement Regalia Rentals by March 26

Faculty and staff who plan to march in commencement are encouraged to order academic regalia rentals by Friday, March 26 and to register online, where volunteer ushers also can register. Technology Building Prep Under Way; Lot D-1 Metered Parking Removed Next Week

The pre-construction phase of the new Technology Building, which includes demolition of the Central Receiving and former bakery buildings, will begin in early April. Construction of the new Technology Building is expected to get under way this fall.

Attention All Student Organization Advisors!

If you advise a student organization on campus please remind your group to submit their Student Organization Recognition form to you for signature so they may reserve space on campus for the fall 2010/spring 2011 semester. They are due by April 19 and must have your signature on them. All student organizations received a copy of this form with instructions last week in their organization mailbox. In order to participate you need to possess a valid Buffalo State College ID, and be available for about an hour. You may be selected at random based upon your availability. You will be given a light snack, and $25 in dining dollars for your time to be spent anywhere we serve food on campus!
