The entire Buffalo State College community is warmly invited to attend the 23rd annual International Cultural Fiesta on Saturday, April 8, in Rockwell Hall at 6:00 p.m. This enchanting night will provide a glimpse of international cultures represented in Buffalo that help promote diversity and understanding in our community. Cultures of the world through music, performances, and a taste of international food will be enjoyed.

Planetary Scientist to Speak Tuesday, April 4

The Women in Science and Mathematics Committee speaker series concludes with Dr. Julie Rathbun, assistant professor of physics at the University of Redlands, California. She will present "A New 'Hot Spot' in the Solar System: Saturn's Moon Enceladus - Results from NASA's Cassini Spacecraft" on Tuesday, April 4, during Bengal Pause in Science Building 213. An astronomer and physicist, Rathbun will discuss her work with the Cassini spacecraft imaging team at Cornell University studying tectonics on the moons of Saturn.

Butler Library Offers Historical Newspapers Database

Search or browse a significant backfile of the New York Times (1851–2003), Wall Street Journal (1889–1989), Washington Post (1877–1990) and Christian Science Monitor (1908–1993) in the ProQuest Historical Newspapers database. Keyword, author, and many other search options are available. Article and page images are in PDF format, so they appear as they did in the actual newspapers. Users may access each newspaper individually or search all four together.

Emerging Technologies at Buffalo State E-TABS Survey Results

As part of the Round Table Discussion following the event "Milestones in 21st-Century Science," results of the E-TABS survey will be presented at 2:00 p.m. Friday, April 7, in Bulger Communication Center East.  The survey was distributed to about 1,200 Buffalo State faculty and staff. The discussion will reveal possible directions for implementing emerging technologies on campus. All people who attend will be entered on a lottery for a $50 gift certificate.

Milestones in 21st-Century Science: Gabor Herman, April 7

Renowned computer scientist Gabor Herman will give a presentation titled "Using Computational Methods to Visualize the Unseen" from 11:00 a.m. to noon on Friday, April 7, in Bulger Communication Center North. A follow-up discussion is scheduled from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in Bulger Communication Center East. Herman is a pioneer in the field of computed tomography (an important medical diagnostic procedure), and he is recognized internationally for his contributions to image processing. He has published more than a dozen books and over 100 articles, which are widely cited.

Learn how to maximize one of the college's newest and most flexible online communication tools. Attend training on Tuesday, April 4 at 9:00 a.m. to learn how to use the college's faculty/staff bulletin board system. During training, you will navigate the bulletin board interface, set up a user account, and learn how to post messages. Faculty attending can learn more about establishing a separate bulletin board for their department. Sessions will be held in CyberQuad 318. Newman Scholars' Forum "Faith and Health"

We are pleased to invite the entire campus community and the community at large to join us for the final session of this year's Newman Scholars' Forum on Monday, April 3, at 7:00 p.m. at the Newman Center at Buffalo State College, 1219 Elmwood Avenue. Distinguished panelists include Dr. Paul Hageman, Ph.D., RN, professor of healing and holistic health, D'Youville College; David Holmes, M.D., clinical assistant professor, Deptartment of Family Medicine and course director of Faith, Medicine, and End of Life Issues at the University at Buffalo, SUNY, and the medical director of Good Neighbor's Health Center and president of Christian Medical and Dental Assoc. of WNY; Joyce Dorsey, adjunct professor at UB, head librarian, Christian Science Reading Room, former associate professor of Principia College. The Scholars' Forum is a volunteer partnership with local colleges and universities to engage in a dialogue between faith and culture. All Scholars' Forum events are free of charge.
