University College, with Academic Affairs and Student Affairs, is sponsoring a First-Year Student Convocation on Friday, August 26, at 3:30 p.m. in Rockwell Hall. During the ceremony, we will welcome the class of 2009 and say a few words to help them recognize they are beginning a special new intellectual life with us.
Please join us, either marching (call the bookstore by Aug.5 to rent academic regalia) or simply sitting with colleagues; then come to a picnic in Rockwell Quad after the ceremony. Let University College know you're coming by calling 878-5906 or sending us an email.

2005 Weight Management Study

The Research Foundation of Buffalo State and the Dietetics and Nutrition Department are sponsoring a research project for overweight women ages 20-59 on how many calories your body burns just resting and how many calories are burned during activity. Call x-5715 or e-mail colaiztm@buffalostate.edu and provide your name and phone number. If eligible, you will be given a free calorimetry test (a $90 test) and activity monitoring. Individuals who are smokers, who have had recent weight loss or illness, or who have conditions that alter the way the body burns calories are not eligible.

Dr. Nuala McGann Drescher Affirmative Action/Diversity Leave Program

Employees in the UUP bargaining unit are reminded that the deadline for applications for the Dr. Nuala McGann Drescher Affirmative Action/Diversity Leave Program is August 1, 2005 for leaves commencing Spring 2006. The program is designed to enhance employment opportunities for minorities, women, persons with disabilities, and Vietnam-era veterans who are full-time employees preparing for continuing or permanent appointments. There's still time to join the team of volunteers at Buffalo State's Newman Center for WNY’s largest volunteer event now in its 13th year! Join the more than 6,000 volunteers from Erie and Niagara counties who will be kicking off the United Way’s annual campaign on the morning of August 17th! By assisting community providers, Day of Caring volunteers save thousands of dollars while gaining the opportunity to see first-hand the impact of their United Way gifts and the important work of human service providers in the community.
