The Literacy Center in El Ed and Rdg. has 2 immediate openings for K-6 students who need support for reading and writing. We invite the children of faculty and staff. Thumbs Up! Fingerprinting Service is coming to
Buffalo State College, Butler Library Room 210,
on Monday, November 1, 2004 from 10 am-4 pm.
New York State mandates that all applicants for teacher certification are fingerprinted. The background check process takes about 8-10 weeks, so get a head start and get your fingerprints done on Monday, November 1st! What you will need to bring with you to get fingerprinted: Fingerprinting packet (available from your dept; a valid ID (driver‘s license/passport); a certified check or money order for $99 payable to NYSED for fingerprinting;$11 Cash only

If you have forgotten your password, you can request a system-generated password to be sent to your Buffalo State e-mail. To request a new password: Choose “Forgot Password Here” from the logon page. Choose “OSS Guest Self Service” from the drop down list under Responsibility. Choose “Go”. Enter your username. Choose “Submit”. After receiving confirmation, your new SABRE password is sent to your campus e-mail. Visit the SABRE web site www.buffalostate.edu/sabre/facstaff for more information. Orientation Wins National Awards

Orientation and First-Year Programs was notified that Buffalo State is being honored with 3 national awards. The National Orientation Directors Association (NODA) will award Buffalo State‘s Orientation program in the following categories:

Outstanding General Brochure (for the 2004 “Think Big” publication inviting students to attend orientation)
Outstanding Multimedia/Emerging Technologies (Academic Theme CD)
Outstanding Use of Theme (overall consistency and originality in the use of a theme)

Awards will be presented to Buffalo State at the NODA annual conference in Chicago on Oct. 31.

Call for Nominations: 2005 Distinguished Alumnus Award

The Buffalo State College Alumni Association seeks nominations for the 2005 Distinguished Alumnus Award, presented annually at commencement. Established in 1965, this prestigious award is given to graduates who meet the following criteria: (1) Significant professional achievement or recognition in his/her field; (2) Dedication to community service and volunteerism; (3) Demonstrated ongoing support for and loyalty to the college.

The Science Behind CSI

William Dean, Chief of Forensic Sciences in Cincinnati, Ohio, will give a public lecture "The Science Behind Forensic Science" on Thursday, October 28, at 12:15 in room SC272. This talk will attempt to clarify how a typical crime laboratory assists the criminal court in judging guilt or innocence. The primary focus will be on procedures using chemistry, physics and biology to examine physical evidence. Sponsored by the Physics Club.
