Timbuktu Exhibit Symposium, Reception, and Preview

Campus welcomes Cheikh AbdelKader Haidara, heir, director, and curator of the Mamma Haidara Library of Timbuktu, a private collection of 9,000 Arabic manuscripts collected since the 16th century at Tombouctou, Republic of Mali. Haidara will be accompanied by Stephanie Diakate, manuscript conservator, attorney, and book artist. Musa Abdul Hakim (x3138) to host. Symposium and reception: FRIDAY, DECEMBER 3, 10:00-11:00 a.m., BUTLER LIBRARY 210. The "Legacy of Timbuktu Exhibit Preview," featuring manuscripts from the Haidara collection, will be at the Museum of Science December 3, 6:00-9:00 p.m.

Automated Updates for Macs Begin November 29

Beginning November 29, CTS will begin sending operating system updates and security fixes to Mac OSX computers during off-hours. All you need to do is log off your computer each night during the week, and LEAVE THE MACHINE POWERED ON. This service will continue for Windows users as well. Please join Provost Dennis Ponton on Monday, November 29th from 3:00 - 4:00 pm in Cleveland Hall, Room 418 to review the proposed five-year initiatives that will be submitted to SUNY as part of the Mission Review process. Some of the specific issues addressed in this document include: faculty hiring priorities; enrollment targets and selectivity goals; retention and graduation goals; academic program direction and goals; campus role and distinctiveness; current and aspirational peers; and goals for sponsored programs and expenditures

Teleconference Offers Conversation about Excellence in the First College Year

Buffalo State will be downloading a national teleconference on Excellence in the First College Year, part of a two-year Policy Center on the First Year of College project that aims to provide an aspirational model or template for first-year success. The teleconference will discuss that model, as well as a new language for structuring a campus-wide dialogue on retention, a systematic approach to the first college year, an overview of what 24 campuses have learned, and the project's research findings.
