New Courses:
EXE 679 Practicum: Special Education All Grades. Prerequisite: Instructor permission. Graduate practicum; focus on program-specific pedagogical core requirements for students with disabilities (all grades) certificate; composed of on-site hours working with individuals with disabilities, completed in a variety of educational settings. Development and implementation of evidence-based instructional strategies, guided by current standards and learners' individual needs. Offered every semester.

MUS 645 Including Students with Exceptionalities in Music Classrooms, Ensembles, and Studios. Prerequisite: Matriculation in master of music education program. Foundation of knowledge related to successfully including students with exceptionalities in P-12 music classrooms, ensembles, and studios. Discussion of strategies that facilitate participation, music skill development, and student enjoyment. Class format includes reading, research, and collaborative lesson designs. Addresses similarities with typical peers as well as challenges for students with exceptionalities related to sensory, behavior, and social challenges that can impede positive inclusion experiences. Offered occasionally.

New Course:
EXE 659 Adapting Curriculum and Instruction to Meet the Needs of Students with Disabilities. Prerequisites: EXE 521 and EXE 623. Corequisite: EXE 504. Prepares educators to design and implement specially designed and systematic instruction for students with disabilities. Candidates learn how to support students across instructional settings by providing accommodations, creating modifications, and using assistive technology to increase access and mastery within the general and alternative curriculums. Course content emphasizes methods and curriculum that benefit students with varying support needs across the continuum of service delivery settings. Offered every semester.

Course Revisions:
BUS 473 International Management. Prerequisite: Junior or senior standing. Various concepts, discussions, and tools for analyzing international management practices around the world. Students gain an understanding of the variations and nuances of global management cultures, goals, and corporate structures. Offered every semester.

EXE 503 Instructional Strategies for Students with Disabilities (formerly EXE 503 Instructional Strategies for Individuals with Mild Disabilities). Prerequisite: EXE 100 or EXE 500 or equivalent. Foundational knowledge in effective instructional practices for students with disabilities. Understanding of essential principles of effective instruction for students with disabilities including implementation of curricular concepts and evidenced-based teaching practices such as explicit instruction and cognitive strategy instruction and learning strategies. Additional focus on the role of technology integration within direct/explicit instruction for students with special needs. Offered every semester.

EXE 619 Advanced Literacy for Students with Disabilities II (formerly EXE 619 Advanced Assessment and Instruction in Reading for Students with High-Incidence Disabilities). Prerequisite: EXE 521 or equivalent. Prepares candidates for working with students who demonstrate significant struggles in literacy, including those with disabilities and linguistically diverse learners. Candidates learn to use a cognitive model of reading to interpret diagnostic assessment information and plan targeted instruction. Offered every semester.  

MUS 390 University Philharmonia (formerly MUS 290 Philharmonia Orchestra). Prerequisite: Audition required. The Philharmonia is a college-community orchestra composed of qualified students and experienced community musicians. This orchestra serves as the primary source for the development and nurturing of orchestral rehearsal practice and concert performance, knowledge of symphonic repertoire, and orchestra performance protocol. Offered every semester.

MUS 311 Survey of World Music Cultures (formerly MUS 208 Survey of World Music Cultures). Survey of representative folk, art, and popular music cultures of Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and Latin America. Lectures and listening assignments. Concert attendance required. Offered every semester.

Course Revisions:
BUS 426 Innovative Thinking and Leadership in the Workplace (formerly BUS 426 Creative Opportunities in Leadership and Management Practices). Prerequisites: Junior standing, BUS 360, and BUS 325. Explores and fosters the critical role of the leader in modern organizational settings. Students gain a deep understanding of how to harness novel and new methods to drive innovation, problem-solving, and sustainable growth within the workplace. Offered occasionally.

CRJ 501 Theoretical Perspectives on Crime and Criminal Justice. Prerequisite: Graduate standing. Patterns and trends in crime and victimization in the United States; the complex relationships between theoretical explanations of criminal behavior and criminal justice policies and priorities; theoretical and empirical foundations of criminal behavior and crime control; development of writing and conceptual skills. Offered fall semester.

EXE 521 Foundations of Literacy for Students with Disabilities I (formerly Curricular and Instructional Strategies for Students with Disabilities). Prerequisite: EXE 503 or equivalent. Prepares teacher candidates to apply and interpret literacy assessment; use of assessment data to plan instruction for students who demonstrate significant difficulties in reading and other essential literacy skills, including students with disabilities and those who are linguistically diverse. Offered every semester.

The CourseLeaf Curriculum Inventory Management (CIM) system will be available for curricular submissions beginning tomorrow, February 9. For course submissions, please use the link on the College Senate Curriculum Committee website; for program submissions, please contact KimMarie Markel, coordinator of catalog and curriculum, for assistance.

All curricular materials submitted using the temporary workflow system will continue to be processed through that system until completion. The temporary workflow will no longer be available for submissions as of Friday, February 23.
