Commencement Online Registration Closes Today

Today, May 11, is the final day for online registration for Commencement marchers and volunteer ushers. Thank you to the many members of the Buffalo State community who have already registered to march or greet and assist graduates and their families on this most auspicious occasion.

Marchers and hooders who have not yet registered or who have changes to their current registrations should e-mail Patricia Alessandra in the Academic Affairs Office.

Volunteer ushers who have not yet registered or who have a change to their current assignments should e-mail Mary Beth Wojtaszek in the Events Management Office.

The election for a classified service representative on the College Senate concluded May 8. The College Senate congratulates Kathrine "Katie" Morales, secretary 2 in the School of the Professions, who has been elected to serve in the position. Her second three-year term begins September 1, 2018.

Tomorrow: Senate Caucus - Election of 2018-2019 Senate Officers

The College Senate Bylaws and Elections Committee will host the annual College Senate Caucus—the election of Senate officers for the 2018–2019 academic year—tomorrow, May 11, from 12:15 to 1:00 p.m. in Butler Library 210. All newly elected senators are invited to attend. The final College Senate meeting of the 2017–2018 academic year will follow the caucus at 2:00 p.m., also in Butler 210. Please note the one hour earlier start time. Questions may be directed to Vincent Masci, assistant to the College Senate, 878-5139.

The final College Senate meeting of the 2017–2018 academic year will be held at 2:00 p.m. tomorrow, May 11, in Butler Library 210. Please note the one hour earlier start time. The agenda is posted (PDF, 106 KB) on the College Senate website.

Open Forum: Vice President for Institutional Advancement - May 14

The search committee for the vice president for institutional advancement invites the campus community to attend an open forum with the first candidate for the position on Monday, May 14, from noon to 12:50 p.m. in Classroom Building C122 (please note the change of venue from yesterday's Daily announcement). The candidate will make a short presentation followed by a question-and-answer session.

The search committee encourages the campus community to provide feedback by completing an online survey after the presentation. The survey will be open from 8:00 a.m. Monday, May 14, through 11:00 p.m. Friday, May 18. Responses will be anonymous. Please direct questions to Wendy Paterson, search chair.

Blue Vista: BPAC Watercolor Workshop - July 26

Please join the Burchfield Penney Art Center for "Blue Vista," the next workshop in the International Center for Watercolor Summer Series with artist and instructor Jennifer Koury, on Thursday, July 26, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The summer workshop series is inspired by the current exhibition Suddenly I Awoke: The Dream Journals of Charles E. Burchfield.

Begin the day inspired by Burchfield's Blue Vista. Participants will paint along with the instructor's guidance to learn watercolor techniques, including underpainting glazes, washes, and masking resists.

The cost of the workshop is $54 for members and $64 for not-yet members.

The Nuts and Bolts of Form: BPAC Watercolor Workshop - July 19

Please join the Burchfield Penney Art Center for “The Nuts and Bolts of Form,” the next workshop in the International Center for Watercolor Summer Series with artist and instructor Jennifer Koury, on Thursday, July 19, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The summer workshop series is inspired by the current exhibition Suddenly I Awoke: The Dream Journals of Charles E. Burchfield.

Nuts, bolts, and buckets of scrap metal are the highlight of the day, creating a still life with highlights and dramatic shadows. The instructor will demonstrate and explain the properties of light and shadow falling across forms and will provide a still life of juxtaposed metal forms.

The cost of the workshop is $42 for members and $52 for not-yet members.

The Long and Winding Road: BPAC Watercolor Workshop - July 12

Please join the Burchfield Penney Art Center for “The Long and Winding Road,” the next workshop in the International Center for Watercolor Summer Series with artist and instructor Jennifer Koury, on Thursday, July 12, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The summer workshop series is inspired by the current exhibition Suddenly I Awoke: The Dream Journals of Charles E. Burchfield.

Bring a favorite photo and your imagination of a winding road lined with receding trees, foliage, hay bales, fence posts, or simple architectural elements to create perspective and depth. Receding shadows might also be a creative element of perpective.

The cost of the workshop is $42 for members and $52 for not-yet members.
