The Students of Concern Care Team is Available to Meet With Campus Departments

Posted:

The Students of Concern Care Team is a group of Buffalo State College faculty and staff who seek to identify and provide support for students in distress who may threaten harm to themselves or others. Your help in providing notice of any students of concern is essential to keeping our campus community safe. Whenever a student’s behavior gives reason for uneasiness, the team is available to assist by investigating the situation, developing a plan for action and following up with the student’s progress.

Information about the Students of Concern Care Team, including an online reporting form, can be found at http://www.buffalostate.edu/deanofstudents/x618.xml. Questions about the operation of the Care Team should be addressed to Charles B. Kenyon, associate vice president and dean of students, at ext. 4618 or kenyoncb@buffalostate.edu

If you wish to invite a member of the team to meet with your department to discuss “red flag” warning signs, ways to report a concern, legal or FERPA issues, or how to respond when confronted by a student in distress, please contact Amy Rosen Brand, associate director, Disability Services, at ext. 4500 or rosenba@buffalostate.edu.

Over 2000 Midterm Grades Submitted Thus Far!

Posted:

TODAY is the deadline to enter Early Intervention (EI) midterm feedback. The grading window is will close at 9 PM tonight.

Thank you to the faculty who have submitted midterm feedback for over 1700 students thus far, and thank you in advance to those who are still in the process of entering grades. This feedback is invaluable to student success at Buffalo State!

Please note that the midterm grading feature in Banner is “all or nothing”, so you will see that you will be able to enter midterm grades for all of the students in all of your classes, if you so choose. Midterm grades for non-EI students will assist students outside of the Early Intervention Program’s population to independently seek academic assistance to improve their performance in your courses.

Students will be able to view their midterm grade estimates in Banner and academic advisors (and program administrators) will be able to review a midterm grade report for all students.

If you need assistance entering the EI grades, please contact the HELP Desk (716-878-4357).

Emerging Technology and Qualitative Research: Swimming in the Sea of Information

Posted:

As technology advances, our world becomes saturated with information. Everyday cell phones now have sensors built in that collect more data than some of the state of the art scientific equipment. Data generation is exponentially growing to the point where the amount of data generated in one year is surpassing the amount of data generated in all the previous years before it. We will take a look at qualitative research, the data environment in the information age, and interesting new tools and ideas in qualitative research. A light lunch will be provided on Wednesday, April 13, 12:00 – 1:00, in the Professional Development Center (BUTL 181B). Presented by Ken Fujiuchi.
