AlcoholEdu - Demonstration and Questions and Answers

Posted:

Faculty and staff are invited to a demonstration of the online education program AlcoholEdu, Friday, April 1, at 1:00 p.m. in E. H. Butler Library 210. Buffalo State is evaluating AlcoholEdu and Kirby Salerno, a representative from Outside The Classroom, will be on hand to demonstrate his company’s product.

Online alcohol intervention programs, when combined with an overall environmental management strategy, are a proven method for reducing alcohol abuse among new and high-risk continuing college students. AlcoholEdu for College, Outside The Classroom’s flagship program, is used on hundreds of campuses and by 36 percent of all first-year students at America's four-year higher education institutions, producing the world's largest database on college students and alcohol. It remains the only program specifically designed for all students—whether they are frequent heavy drinkers, light to moderate drinkers, or non-drinkers.

For over a decade, Outside The Classroom has been steadfast in its endeavor to strengthen the field of alcohol prevention. For further information, contact Ron George at ext. 4436 or Charles Kenyon at ext. 4618.

A Child Is Missing Alert Program Test

Posted:

Peter M. Carey, chief of University Police, has formalized an agreement with the A Child Is Missing Alert program that has led to a high-tech method for searching locally for missing children, elderly adults (often with Alzheimer’s), college students, and persons who may be mentally or physically challenged or disabled.

A Child Is Missing Program initiates a rapid process of information gathering and sophisticated mapping systems which expedites thousands of phone calls within minutes with a customized recorded message detailing the missing persons description and last known whereabouts. The message will also include a New York State University Police Department phone number to be called by anyone who has information regarding the location of the missing person. To date, the efforts of A Child Is Missing have been credited with more than 790 safe assisted recoveries.

A controlled test of 132 campus telephone numbers will be conducted on Thursday, March 31, at 10:00 a.m. The pre-recorded message will indicate that this is a test.

To enter your contact information, visit www.achildismissing.org and click on “add your name” to enter your name, telephone number, and address.
