Online communication has come a long way since the early days of bulletin board systems (BBS) and Internet relay chat (IRC). Learn more about state-of-the-art communication tools—including simple screen sharing, voice calls, and group messaging systems—and how to use them during this professional development workshop on Wednesday, October 12, from noon to 1:00 p.m. in the Professional Development Center (E. H. Butler Library 181B). Facilitated by Ken Fujiuchi. A light lunch will be provided.

Presentation on Intercultural Communication - Today

Alison Owens, Ed.D., of Central Queensland University, one of Buffalo State’s partner institutions in Australia, will present “Intercultural Communication” today, September 27, at 12:15 p.m. in Bacon Hall 117. Owens regularly shares her research at domestic and international conferences on themes revolving around intercultural communication, intercultural and international education, and specifically the role of the English language in globalized and technologically mediated communications.

What if you could show someone what you are doing on your computer in a few easy steps? Join.me is just such a free online collaboration tool. Learn how easy the Research Foundation purchasing e-forms are to prepare, approve, and monitor progress. The electronic workflow moves the e-form from preparer to purchasing to paid—providing status updates by e-mail and links to the form throughout the process.

Fall Forum: Call for Submissions

The 12th annual Faculty and Staff Research and Creativity Fall Forum will be held on Thursday, October 27, in the Houston Gym.

The goal of this forum is to develop, encourage, and support Buffalo State faculty and staff research and creativity, and to make collaborative research endeavors and grantsmanship more accessible. This is an excellent opportunity to network with other Buffalo State faculty and staff and to identify common scholarly and creative interests you may have.

All faculty and staff are invited to organize an exhibit to present current research, creative activity, or other scholarship. Individual, departmental, or group exhibits are welcome.

To participate, please complete the online form. Titles and abstracts/descriptions are to be submitted electronically by Friday, September 30.

Leadership Opportunity for Students

The Counseling Center is seeking students who are interested in becoming a part of our Student Advisory Committee. The Student Advisory Committee will assist the center with tasks such as assisting with planning, providing feedback, revising programs and services, and promotions. Child Care Center Fall Festival

Start the fall season off right! Please join us for the first Fall Festival Fundraiser for the Child Care Center on Friday, October 7, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Campbell Student Union Social Hall. We will have Weidner's chicken dinners, a bake sale, a 50/50 raffle, games and prizes for children of all ages, candy apples, clowns, a "pumpkin patch," and art activities.

Chicken dinners may be purchased in advance at a discounted cost of $8.50 for adults and $6.00 for children under 12. Dinners include a half chicken for adults or a quarter chicken for children, salad, potato, and beverage. Dinners will be available for takeout beginning at 4:30 p.m., or supporters may stay and enjoy all the festival has to offer.

Tickets may be purchased by cash or a check payable to BSC Child Care and are available at the following campus locations: Child Care Center in Campus West C-Wing, Gina Game in Bishop Hall 17, Susan McCartney in Cleveland Hall 206, Carolyn Fusco in Rockwell Hall 222, Daniel Vélez in Cleveland Hall 519, and Deborah Renzi in Classroom Building C115.
