Applications are being accepted through Monday, October 24, for the January and May 2012 Emerging College Leaders programs for faculty and professional staff. The program dates for January are 10–13, 17, and 18, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. May program dates are 15–17 and 22–24, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with follow-up sessions in September and December. Additional information, nomination forms (due Monday, October 17), and application forms are available on the Professional Development website. The McNair Scholars Program will host an information and recruitment session on Tuesday, October 25, from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m. in Science Building 250.

The McNair Scholars Program helps prepare first-generation, low-income, and/or underrepresented Buffalo State students for graduate study. Students who participate in this program are provided with research opportunities and faculty mentors. Please inform any student you feel qualifies for this program. The McNair Scholars Program at Buffalo State is seeking high-achieving undergraduate students from all majors.  The program prepares students for graduate study through a variety of scholarly and research activities. Please inform any student you feel qualifies for this program. Students can be referred to the McNair office, Science Building 253. Zumba Mondays and Wednesdays through the End of the Semester

Those of you who are wondering what Zumba is all about can stop by the Houston Gym dance studio 213 and try a class! Classes are free and will be held Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. with Deidrinelle Rouse, Porter Hall complex director, through the end of the semester.

No experience is needed to enjoy Zumba, just a positive attitude, comfortable clothes, water, and the ability to have fun! “Ditch the workout; join the party!”

Buffalo State Community Service Day

Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to join the Volunteer and Service-Learning Center on Saturday, October 15, from 8:30 a.m. to noon for a morning of service at locations throughout the city of Buffalo. Volunteers will be planting trees, preparing food, renovating and painting houses, and helping block clubs and community gardens. Lunch is provided for all volunteers. Fall Forum: Deadline September 30 for Call for Submissions

The 12th annual Faculty and Staff Research and Creativity Fall Forum will be held on Thursday, October 27, in the Houston Gym.

The goal of this forum is to develop, encourage, and support Buffalo State faculty and staff research and creativity, and to make collaborative research endeavors and grantsmanship more accessible. This is an excellent opportunity to network with other Buffalo State faculty and staff and to identify common scholarly and creative interests you may have.

All faculty and staff are invited to organize an exhibit to present current research, creative activity, or other scholarship. Individual, departmental, or group exhibits are welcome.

To participate, please complete the online form. Titles and abstracts/descriptions are to be submitted electronically by Friday, September 30.

January Term/Spring 2012 Banner Preview Begins October 3

Banner preview begins Monday, October 3. In Self-Service Banner (SSB), students can search the master schedule for both the January term and spring 2012 semester (in draft format), view holds (if applicable), view their assigned adviser, and view their assigned timeticket or registration time assignment for January term/spring 2012 registration. Please be reminded that all registration activity begins at 6:00 a.m. on the assigned date and is then continuous. All continuing students are encouraged to register on their assigned dates.

The master schedule may continue to change. Both the January term and spring 2012 master schedules will be available online starting Thursday, October 13. Also, as a quick reference, you can view changes, including added or canceled courses, via the spring addendum Excel spreadsheet on the Registrar's Office website.

Please encourage students to stay on track to graduate and to register on their assigned dates to secure their desired schedules.
