Art in Craft Media Opens Saturday with an Opening Celebration from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m.

The Burchfield Penney Art Center and Sylvia L. Rosen invite the Buffalo State community to the opening of the biennial exhibition Art in Craft Media 2011 on Saturday, October 15, from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the Burchfield Penney.

The exhibition features works in clay, glass, metal, paper, and fiber by 59 Western New York artists including Buffalo State faculty members Bob Wood, Darien Johnson, Jozef Bajus, Bethany Krull, and Jessie Welp and emerita faculty member Nancy Belfer, as well as several Buffalo State students and alumni.

The exhibition is on view from October 15, 2011, to January 15, 2012, in the East Gallery.

Young Audiences of Western New York Goes to Town

Join us for a musical celebration in two acts to benefit arts education, featuring performances by world-beat ensemble N'Dias (the Mix), Diaspora Drumming (Brazilian beats), and classical cellist Nancy Baun and honoring Lorna C. Hill and Helga MacKinnon.

When: Wednesday, October 12, beginning at 6:00 p.m.

Young Audiences of Western New York’s annual fundraiser brings community leaders together to celebrate our mission of enhancing young people’s lives through the arts. Your support helps bring programs to children throughout the eight counties of Western New York.

This year, our program features two exciting acts:

Act I (6:00–8:00 p.m.): Guests enjoy a classical music performance by cellist Nancy Baun as well as plentiful appetizers from Torches, a silent auction, raffles, and our annual awards ceremony, honoring outstanding achievement in the fields of art and education. This year’s program celebrates the remarkable accomplishments of Lorna C. Hill, founder and artistic director of the Ujima Theatre Company Inc., and Helga MacKinnon, former executive director of Young Audiences of Western New York.

ACT II (8:00–10:30 p.m.): The Act II after-party concert features musical performances by Diaspora Drumming and headliners N’Dias (the Mix) in the Town Ballroom auditorium. N’Dias is a 12-member world-beat ensemble that performs African drum and dance in engaging high-energy performances that are sure to get you moving.
