Athletes and Scholarships

If your department is granting scholarships, please be aware that, per NCAA Division III regulations, athletic ability or participation in athletics cannot be taken into account in the awarding of scholarships to students. This does not mean that an athlete cannot receive a scholarship, but rather that their athletic endeavors cannot be used or considered in the selection criteria. Questions of compliance should be directed to Connie Cooke, director of financial aid, ext. 4902.

Tell Students: Get the CDC Advantage - Free Entrance Exams (GRE, LSAT, and MCAT)

Tell your students who are considering graduate school to take a free, proctored practice entrance exam with Kaplan Test Prep. The following tests will be offered on Wednesday, October 26, in the Science Building: MCAT (6:00 p.m.), LSAT (6:15 p.m.), and GRE (6:30 p.m.). All students and alumni are welcome to register.

Advance registration is required. To sign up, or for more information, students should contact the Career Development Center (CDC), ext. 5811 or Cleveland Hall 306. This event is sponsored by the CDC and Kaplan Test Prep.

Get the CDC Advantage: Graduate School Fair 2011

Tell your students about Grad Fair ’11 on Thursday, October 13, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Campbell Student Union Social Hall.

Students from all majors will have the chance to meet with more than 50 graduate school representatives from across the country. This is a unique opportunity for students to get the inside scoop on the application process, admission requirements, and financial aid opportunities from recruiters. Career counselors will also be present to answer questions.

Students who attend the fair can enter to win a free exam prep course donated by Kaplan Test Prep and the Princeton Review, valued at over $2,000!

Professional Development: Universal Design for Instruction (UDI) for Online and Blended Courses

This webinar will provide an overview of UDI, outline the needs of students and faculty in online and blended courses, and explain the development of an e-toolbox for use by faculty in the planning of a course, delivery of course content, and/or assessment of student learning. It will discuss several e-tools (e.g., Adobe Acrobat, Doodle, VoiceThread, and Jing) within the e-toolbox, highlighting their strategic uses within a postsecondary course to address the various learning needs of students. There was no opportunity to preview this webinar, which is presented by the UDI Online Project at the University of Connecticut. The 2009–2011 Parking and Transportation Committee, chaired by Karen O’Quin, associate dean of the School of Natural and Social Sciences, submitted its biennial report to the vice president for finance and management in August. At this time, the campus community is invited to review and respond to the report (PDF, 196 KB) and its recommendations. Free Assessment and Evaluation at the Buffalo State Literacy Center

The Buffalo State College Literacy Center (Bacon Hall 227) is offering free literacy assessments and evaluations for children of Buffalo State students, faculty, and staff in grades K–12. Sessions are on Mondays or Wednesdays from 5:00 to 6:45 p.m. There are five sessions and one parent conference. Parents receive a diagnostic report with instructional recommendations for home and school. Children who attend will be eligible for one-on-one tutoring for the spring semester. Sessions begin October 26 (Wednesdays) and November 7 (Mondays). Please call ext. 5917 or e-mail garasyka@buffalostate.edu to register.

Tell Students: Join the Burchfield Penney Student Organization This Fall

The purpose of the Burchfield Penney Art Center (BPAC) Street Team is to provide Buffalo State students with experience and opportunities to participate in the areas of museum studies, education, communication, and marketing. Founded last fall, this organization seeks to unite the campus museum and the campus body.

Activities planned for this semester include a tour of the Richardson Complex, a guest speaker series, and a fall fundraiser. The organization also provides many volunteer opportunities.

The Street Team meets every Friday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. in the museum's conference room. For an application or more information, please e-mail ryderah@buffalostate.edu.
