In recognition of Sexual Assault Awareness Month and Take Back the Night 2010, Buffalo State College will be going teal. You will notice teal ribbons tied around many trees on campus and inspirational quotes written on the sidewalks. Teal is the official color for sexual assault awareness month.

NIH Director Visits Campus

Join NASO in welcoming Dr. Clifton Poodry, Director of Minority Research Opportunities at NIH, to campus on Tuesday, April 6 as part of the 20th Annual Native American Heritage Celebration month. Dr Poodry will meet with students and faculty in TR 102 from 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m., in 369 SCI from 3:00-4:30 p.m., and will deliver a presentation on "Creativity in Life's Endeavors" from 7:00-9:00 p.m. in Bulger S. Dr. Poodry is Tonawanda Seneca and emeritus professor of Biology at UC Santa Cruz. All events are free and open to faculty, staff, and students. Refreshments will be served at all events. Dr. Poodry's visit is co-sponsored by the Biology Club, the NSS Dean's Office, C-STEP Program, and the Aquatic and Watershed Ecology URM Program.

Roger McGuinn Returns to Rockwell Hall

The Performing Arts Center at Rockwell Hall proudly welcomes back legendary founder of The Byrds and folk rock pioneer Roger McGuinn on Friday, April 23 at 8:00 p.m. Opening the show will be local songstress Maria Sebastian. This concert is part of the Performing Arts Center’s 2009-10 Great Performers Series, presented by M&T Bank. Tickets are onsale now, with a discount for BSC Faculty and Staff. Rooftop Poetry Club: What Poem is in Your Pocket?

Celebrate National Poetry Month by participating in the Academy of American Poets "Poem in Your Pocket Day." In preparation for this national day of poetry sharing, bring a favorite poem to read to the group on April 7 from 4:30-5:30 p.m. We'll work on creating "pocket poems" to distribute across the community on "Poem in Your Pocket Day," April 29, 2010. Lunch with Aaron Mentkowski

Join us for a luncheon with Aaron Mentkowski, meteorologist for WKBW-TV, Channel 7. He will share his take on Buffalo's weather and talk about the business of broadcast meteorology in today's market. The luncheon is scheduled for April 8 (Thursday) at 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in room 208 in E. H. Butler Library. China Week April 5-9

Buffalo State's fourth annual China Week will take place April 5-9. The Campbell Student Union lobby will host a show of Chinese arts and crafts Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. On Tuesday at 12:15 p.m. in Classroom Building B119, a film of the opening ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympics will be screened. On Wednesday at 12:00 noon in Bacon Hall 215, Dr. Yu Jiyuan, professor of philosophy at the University at Buffalo, will speak on "Confucius and Confucianism." Refreshments will be served at the film screening and the lecture. These events are supported by an Equity and Campus Diversity grant, the Research Foundation, the Sociology Department, and University College.

EVERGREEN collected 149 eyeglasses/sunglasses during the month of March. By donating your glasses you are helping people with eyesight difficulties worldwide. With the price of glasses exceeding three months' average salary in some African countries, donated eyeglasses are the only feasible way to bring sight to many visually impaired.
