Retirement Open House for Mary Lou Hartnett

After 23 years of committed service, Mary Lou Hartnett is retiring from Buffalo State College. We acknowledge and thank her for her commitment to the goals of Buffalo State and specifically The Graduate School. A retirement open house will be held on Wednesday, June 30, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. in Cleveland Hall 205. Please stop in between these hours for a light reception and to wish Mary Lou well upon her retirement. No formal program has been planned.

Grading Window Now Opened for Summer Session A

Faculty will enter their summer 2010 grades using Banner. The grading window is now open for summer session A and will close Thursday, July 1, at 10:00 a.m. Detailed documentation for entering grades is available online. Additionally, assistance is available by calling the Computing Help Desk, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., at ext. 4357. If you have any questions about grading, please call the Registrar's Office at ext. 4811.

Graduate Admissions Application Fee Increase

The graduate admissions application fee is being raised by $15, from $50 to $65, effective Thursday, June 24, 2010. The new fee, recently approved by SUNY, will apply to applicants applying for summer 2010 admission. This fee increase affects all graduate applications.

If you wish to serve on a College Senate standing committee for the 2010-2011 academic year, please visit the committees section of the College Senate Web site and complete the Committee Interest Form (PDF). Chairs of the standing committees will begin their search for new candidates soon. You must complete this form to be considered. If you cannot submit electronically, please send the form via intercampus mail to the College Senate Office, Cleveland Hall 211, Attention: Vincent Masci, by September 1, 2010.

The Women in Literacy and Life Assembly (WILLA) of the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) is pleased to announce presentations by teachers showcasing their work with twenty-first century literacies and gender issues, Saturday, June 26, from 9:15 to 11:15 a.m. in Cleveland Hall 418. Faculty, staff, and others are welcome! WILLA strives to improve the teaching of English language arts by focusing attention on gender-related issues in literacy teaching and learning, including the status and image of women, girls, men, and boys and to foster the exchange of ideas and perspectives among people interested in gender issues relating to English.

Workshop: Young Adults, Sex, and Technology

A full-day workshop focusing on young adults and digital media as well as the impact that commercial media has on body image and self esteem. Learn how media use is associated with the sexual knowledge, attitudes, and behavior of young adults. The effects of technology on dating violence will be discussed. Explore the challenges of new technology including sexting, chat rooms, blogging, social networking sites, and Internet safety.
