Nominations Sought for Young Alumnus Achievement Award: Deadline Is July 2

The Buffalo State Alumni Association seeks nominations for the 2010 Young Alumnus Achievement Award. Established in 2002, the Young Alumnus Achievement Award recognizes outstanding alumni of the last 20 years. Recipients are chosen by the director of Alumni Affairs and the president of the Alumni Association Board of Directors from a list of nominees recommended by the Young Alumnus Achievement Award Selection Committee. This committee is made up of alumni, faculty, and board members.

Technology Building Project Continues with Demolition of Bakery

The first steps of the new Technology Building project are proceeding as scheduled. Now that the asbestos abatement phase is complete for the former bakery building (Building 46), work will continue as demolition of that building begins this week.

Independence Day Holiday Observance

July 4, Independence Day, falls on a Sunday this year. By law, holidays that fall on a Sunday are observed by the state on the following Monday; therefore, Independence Day will be observed by the state on Monday, July 5, 2010. No classes are scheduled for that day. Employees who are eligible to observe holidays may take this day off without charge to leave accruals.

Annual Support Staff Appreciation Picnic

Interim President Dennis Ponton will host the annual Support Staff Appreciation Picnic on Tuesday, June 15, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Ice Arena. For those support staff members who are unable to attend the picnic, Dr. Ponton will also host a Pizza and Wings Party in the Bulger Communication Center at 11:00 p.m.

Opera-Lytes presents Gilbert and Sullivan's The Gondoliers at Alleyway Theatre in Buffalo, NY. The production is directed by Lisa Berglund, associate professor of English, and features Buffalo State post-baccalaureate student Sara Kovacsi in a starring role. Performances are June 11–12 and June 18–19 at 8:00 p.m. and June 13 and June 20 at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $20; a limited number of $10 tickets for students under age 18 are available. On Wednesday, June 9, at 3:00 p.m., all dining operations will be closed for computer system maintenance. All vending machine swipe card readers will not work after 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 9.
