Carl Wilkens Rwanda Story

The African and African American Studies Interdisciplinary Unit (AAAS) invites Buffalo State students, faculty, and staff to a lecture given by Carl Wilkens on Thursday, October 29, 2009 at 12:15-1:30 p.m. in Bulger Communication Center North. Carl Wilkens was the only American who stayed in Rwanda after the 1994 genocide started. His decision resulted in preventing the massacre of hundreds of orphans between April and July 1994. His story has inspired many in the USA, in Rwanda, and around the world.

The Pedagogy 2.0 Series is a series of workshops designed for those who are teaching. The first workshop in the series is on October 27 from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m. in Bulger 104. It will focus on images and how to use free web-based tools to add interactivity and collaboration in both the traditional and online classrooms. This is a hands-on workshop and space is limited.

The McNair Scholars Alumni Chapter would like to invite you to attend their Flapjack Scholarship Fundraiser at the Delaware Applebee’s this Sunday, October 18. You can have breakfast in the restaurant anytime between 8:00 until 10:00 a.m. Tickets for the event are $5 and Applebee’s will donate 80 percent of the proceeds to the David Matyjasik Scholarship Fund, named in honor of a McNair Scholar who tragically passed away in 2003.
