Mass of Communal Anointing

Are you in need of God's healing—physically, emotionally, or spiritually? Father Pat, director, Catholic Campus Ministry at the Newman Center, invites the entire campus community to a Mass of Communal Anointing on Sunday, March 2, at 11:30 a.m. in the Newman Center Chapel, 1219 Elmwood Avenue. Adults and children who are seriously ill, anticipating surgery, or suffering from chronic illness, addiction, or physical, emotional, or mental difficulty of any kind are invited to participate. Lecture on Exhibit Design

Chuck Regier, Kauffman Museum curator of exhibits, consultation project director, and Smithsonian Institution fellow, has been invited to speak by the communication design area of the Design Department. Regier's lecture, "Exhibit Design: Artifact, Materials, and Process," will be held on Tuesday, March 4, from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m. in Upton Hall 211. The lecture is part of the Arts and Humanities Presenters Series Innovations in Creative Expression.

The New Burchfield-Penney: A Green Museum

The New York Upstate Chapter of the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) will make a co-presentation with the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Buffalo/Western New York Chapter on the new Burchfield-Penney Art Center, today, February 26, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. The new building is slated to have a silver rating from the USGBC’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System. Join Burchfield-Penney Art Center director Ted Pietrzak for an inside look at the project, followed by a question-and-answer discussion. Student Support Services Program Annual Student Recognition Ceremony

Student Support Services Program, informally known as SSSP, will hold its annual Student Recognition Ceremony on Thursday, February 28, from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m. in the Burchfield-Penney Art Center's North Gallery. This event serves to honor SSSP students for their academic achievements. Program director Florence D. Johnson and her staff are proud to recognize more than 50 participants who are carrying a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher. The Student Support Services Program is a Title IV (TRIO) federally funded project that operates under the umbrella of the Research Foundation and University College. The program goals are retention, graduation, and good academic standing. The program is designed to provide opportunities for academic achievement, cultural enrichment, and tutorial assistance, as well as to motivate students toward successful completion of their degrees.

Leadership Lecture Series: Sulayman S. Nyang

Sulayman S. Nyang will speak as part of the Leadership Lecture Series on Thursday, February 28, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. in E. H. Butler Library 210. Nyang is professor of African Studies at Howard University in Washington, D.C. and has written extensively on Islamic, African, and Middle Eastern affairs. Nyang's latest book, Islam in America, is scheduled to appear this fall. The Leadership Lecture Series is free and open to the public.

Siena Night: Learn About Studying in Italy

Siena Night will take place Tuesday, March 4, at 7:30 p.m. in Bulger Communication Center East. Students will learn how they can spend a semester studying in Siena, Italy. They will view a slide presentation, hear from former program participants about their experiences, find out about financial aid and scholarships, and learn how courses taken in Siena fulfill requirements at Buffalo State. Students will be invited to sample authentic Italian refreshments. Students are encouraged to bring family members and friends to learn more about how they can partake in an experience that has been transforming students' lives since 1961.

Professor Rera's book, There are No Doors on a Cocoon: Ugly Little Tales of Nasty Little Humans, is a collection of flash fiction.
