Cleveland Hall Update

Window caulk replacement on the north side of Cleveland Hall is nearing completion, and on Wednesday crews plan to move to the south side. In an effort to limit noise inside, building occupants on all sides of the building are asked to refrain from opening windows while work is underway.

Faculty File Server Upgrade Scheduled for May 22

Computing and Technology Services will be upgrading network file server, BSCAPPM2. This is the server that houses personal network folders for individual faculty. The change will not affect staff shares, departmental folders, or Web sites (personal or departmental). Files on the faculty personal network shares will be moved early in the morning on Thursday, May 22. The move will take place between 5:00 and 9:00 a.m., and the shares will not be accessible during that time. This process, once completed, will be “invisible” to the faculty member and no modifications should be necessary. Please contact the Computing Help Desk at ext. 4357 if you have any questions.

Update on Archaeology at Old Fort Niagara

Tonight, the Houghton Chapter lecture series will feature a talk by two faculty members, Dr. Susan Maguire, lecturer, Anthropology Department, and Dr. Elizabeth Peña, director and professor, Art Conservation Department. They will be presenting an, "Update on Archaeology at Old Fort Niagara." The Houghton Chapter is part of the New York State Archaeological Association whose purpose it is to promote archaeological and historical study and research covering the artifacts, rites, customs, beliefs, and cultures of the aboriginal occupants of New York State up to and including their contact with the Europeans. All Houghton Chapter meetings are free and open to the public. Lectures are held at the Buffalo Museum of Science at 7:00 p.m. Please join us!

EndNote Compatibility with Office 2008 for Macs

If you are a Mac user who uses EndNote, you may have noticed that the "Cite While You Write" (CWYW) feature does not work with Office 2008. According to EndNote's Web site, "Microsoft and Thomson Reuters are actively working on an update to fully restore CWYW compatibility for EndNote X1." In the meantime, if you need this EndNote feature, please contact the Computing Help Desk at ext. 4357 to have Office 2004 reinstalled. Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Wine Weekend

The Buffalo State College Alumni Association invites you to Wine Weekend, June 6 and 7, 2008. Join us on Friday, June 6, for the Third annual "A Toast to the City" Wine Tasting, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., at the Marcy Casino in Delaware Park. Taste wines from Chateau Buffalo and Southern Wine, and food provided by the Seneca Niagara Casino, Sample Restaurant, and more. Proceeds benefit the Burchfield-Penney New Museum Project. The cost is $30 presale and at the door. Reservations are recommended.

Ceramics Program Hosts 10th Annual Western New York Clay Olympics

The Buffalo State ceramics program will host the 10th annual Western New York Clay Olympics on Friday, May 16, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. in Upton Hall 128. This year’s contest involves students from four area high schools whose teachers are alumni of the ceramics and art education programs at Buffalo State: Kenmore East (Matt Sagurney), Lancaster (Ann Perry-Smith), Lewiston-Porter (Brett Coppins), and Pioneer (Scott Losi). Some 35 student-contestants, working individually and in teams, will compete in timed events using clay and various clay forming methods in a contest between the four schools. The overall team point winner of all the competitions receives a trophy created by last year's winner.
