Visiting Chinese Artists Share Their Work

As part of the exchange between Capital Normal University in Beijing, China, and the Design and Fine Arts departments at Buffalo State, two visiting scholars will lecture on their work. Xueting Hao, a graphic designer, and Chen Wei, a painter, will speak in Upton Hall 203 at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday, October 30. An exhibition featuring their students' works will begin at 6:00 p.m. in Upton Gallery.

All Saints Day Mass: November 1

On Thursday, November 1, we gather to celebrate the lives of all those who have gone before us. Mass will be celebrated on campus at 12:05 p.m. in Butler Library 210, and at the Newman Center Chapel, 1219 Elmwood Ave, at 6:00 p.m. At both liturgies, there will be time to inscribe the names of deceased loved ones in a Book of Remembrance. At the 6:00 p.m. liturgy, we will display small, framed photos of loved ones who are now with God and take a moment to light a candle in their memory. All are welcome.

The Fast Growing Economy in China: Chinese Scholars' Perspectives

Next Tuesday, October 30, at 12:15 p.m. in Classroom Building B118, four Ph.D. candidates currently on exchange from the Central University of Finance and Economics in Beijing will offer an overall review of the Chinese economy in the past 20 years, as well as perspectives on economic growth and environmental protection, urban and industrial economy, and rural and agricultural economy.

Earlier this week, Provost Dennis Ponton met with Stephanie Barber, United Way; CSEA President Helen Hughes; UUP President Richard Stempniak; and Margaret Shaw-Burnett, campaign coordinator for SEFA/United Way; to review campaign progress and to discuss ways to reach our SEFA/United Way goal. The group agreed that reaching our goal is a priority so that we can continue to support the many needs of our local area. Members of the Buffalo State community are encouraged to participate in the campaign through payroll deduction or direct gifts.

Poetry Reading on Sunday at the Burchfield-Penney Featuring Chris Doda

The Burchfield-Penney Art Center is pleased to present a poetry reading by Chris Doda on Sunday, October 28, at 2:00 p.m. Doda is a poet, critic, and editor living in Toronto. He published his first collection of poems, Among Ruins, in 2001. He is an editor of Exile: The Literary Quarterly.
