Revised Form I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification

The Department of Homeland Security has issued a revised Employment Eligibility Form (I-9), which must be used for all new hires as of November 7. Changes to the form include a reduction in the number of documents employers may accept from newly hired employees to verify employment eligibility. The new I-9 form (Rev 06/05/07) is the only version of the form that will be valid for new hires after November 7. The revised I-9 Form with a list of acceptable documents and instructions can be found at the Buffalo State College Human Resources Web site. If you have any questions regarding the Form I-9, please contact the Payroll Office at ext. 4124.

Communication Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony Friday, November 16

Two nationally acclaimed media professionals and Communication Department alums will be inducted into the Communication Hall of Fame on November 16. The celebration will also include the induction of new students into the Lambda Pi Eta national communication honor society. James Hill, '88, and Frank Stasio, '76, will join 12 other alums who include Academy, Emmy and Peabody Award winners.

Join us tonight for the Houghton Chapter, New York State Archaeological Association lecture series for a talk titled "The Creation of a Propertied Landscape: Settlement and Land Division in Viking Age Iceland" by Dr. Douglas Bolender, research associate, Institute for European and Mediterranean Archaeology, University at Buffalo. The talk will be at 7:00 p.m. at the Buffalo Museum of Science.

Demonstration of Audience Response Systems: 'Clickers'

The Teaching Learning Technology Roundtable presents Jeff Stanton from Turning Point, a vendor of personal response systems technology, on Thursday, November 15, during Bengal Pause (12:15–1:30 p.m.) in Science Building 103. Stanton will demonstrate the Turning Point system and answer questions. UB recently adopted the voluntary standard of the Turning Point system. All campus faculty and staff are invited. Light refreshments will be available.

Share your thoughts about the current site during this informal brown bag session (we’ll bring dessert!). During the session, the Web team will share metrics we’ll use to help us shape the next version of buffalostate.edu, including a usability study performed on our site by RIT, traffic and search trends, and results from recent student surveys and card sorting exercises. The Hills Are Alive with the Sounds of Buffalo State!

The Buffalo State Alumni Association invites you to attend a special reception preceding two upcoming concerts at the Performing Arts Center at Rockwell Hall on Thursday, November 15, and Thursday, November 29. The Buffalo State College Wind Ensemble will perform on November 15, and the Buffalo State College Jazz Ensemble will perform on November 29. Stop by the Metcalfe Room in Rockwell Hall for refreshments followed by an opportunity to hear our accomplished student musicians. Both receptions will start at 7:00 p.m., and the concerts (starting at 8:00 p.m.) are free. For reservations, call the Alumni Office at ext. 6001.

N. David Mermin from Cornell University will speak about Einstein's special relativity during Bengal Pause (12:15 to 1:30 p.m.) on Thursday, November 15, in Science Building C272. Mermin is well noted for his ability to speak about complex topics in a way that both scientists and nonscientists can understand. This lecture is sponsored by the Physics and Chemistry Departments.
