MentorNet - A New Way to Get Involved in Undergrad Research/Creative Activities

Are you interested in meeting other faculty to discuss issues related to mentoring undergraduates conducting research or creative activities? The Undergraduate Research Office introduces its latest initiative: the Undergraduate Research MentorNet (MentorNet, for short). MentorNet is designed to provide an opportunity for faculty to get together in an informal setting to share experiences and learn more about how to mentor students conducting research/creative projects. The first meeting is Wednesday, February 1, in the Board Room of Campus House, 8:30–9:30 a.m. A continental breakfast (coffee, muffins) will be served.

Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Training Session 7

The Emergency Response Planning Group, part of the campuswide Emergency Preparedness Planning Committee, will present the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training program. The CERT program consists of eight units and a final course review and disaster-simulation exercise. Units will be presented twice a month in three-hour intervals, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., in E. H. Butler Library 210. We will be offering this program on a cyclical basis so if a session is missed, it can be attended on the next cycle. The seventh session, Terrorism, will be held on Wednesday, February 1. Refreshments will be served. The Return of the NIA Mentor Program: Don’t Miss the First Event January 27

The NIA (Nurture – Initiative – Achievement) Mentor Program is based on a two-tiered mentoring system that comprises a peer mentor and a faculty or staff mentor for each mentee. By mentoring a student, a faculty or staff mentor will play an active role in aiding the college’s retention efforts. More importantly, a mentor will touch the life of the mentee as a friend and role model.

Classroom Performance System Demo

Posted:

A demonstration of the Classroom Performance System (CPS) by David Wegenast, professor of social work, is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 24, in Classroom Building C101. This classroom interactive system offers creative ways to promote class participation, enhance presentations providing instant feedback to students and faculty, conduct and report outcomes of testing and evaluation in real time, and assess the effectiveness of teaching and learning. The use of CPS in classroom teaching is growing at universities worldwide and here at Buffalo State.
