Homecoming Food Drive for BSC Food Pantry

The annual Homecoming Food Drive, benefiting the Buffalo State Food Pantry, will be held Friday, October 1, from noon to 2:30 p.m. Members of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and the Greeks will canvass the campus for canned or nonperishable food donated by faculty and staff members. To schedule a pickup, please contact Tom Koller at ext. 6514 or via e-mail at kollertc@buffalostate.edu. If you're not on campus that day but wish to contribute, contact Tom for a pickup day convenient to your schedule.

FIRE DRILLS

To comply with the New York State Education Law, Section 807, fire evacuation drills will be conducted throughout campus, September 27 – October 1, 2004.

Coordinated with the Buffalo Fire Department and University Police, the drills test fire alarm systems, including signaling devices (bells, horns, and lights), automatic fire door closers, evacuation routes, and communication lines.

To avoid having a drill scheduled in your building at a specific time, contact Cheryl Slisz, Dept. of Environmental Health and Safety, at ext. 4038, or sliszca@buffalostate.edu.

Paws to Roar, Homecoming 2004

Paws to Roar, Homecoming 2004, is set for Sept. 30-Oct. 2. The fun kicks off with the traditional Pep Rally / USG BBQ in the Union Quad. The King and Queen competition, Homecoming Food Drive, Student-Parent dinner, Young Alumnus Award reception, comedy by Dat Phan (winner, Last Comic Standing), Parade and Shopping Cart Float competition, Tailgate Tent featuring Chiavetta's chicken, soccer and football games, and the Athletic Hall of Fame induction ceremony are also scheduled. ANGEL Course Management System

As Buffalo State nears the end of its current contract with Blackboard, the college is exploring other course management systems. Those under consideration are Blackboard‘s Enterprise Version, SUNY‘s CourseSpace, and ANGEL (A New Global Environment for Learning).

Cyber Learning Labs, developers of ANGEL, will be on campus on Tuesday, September 21, for presentations throughout the day.

DISABILITY MENTORING DAY

Disability Mentoring Day is October 20, 2004. Students with disabilities can learn about careers with public, private, non-profit, government, and education employers. Students will meet with organization leaders to ask them about their careers, visit work sites, and spend the day job shadowing. There is an application deadline for students of 9/28/04. Tickets are now on sale at the Rockwell Hall box office for William Shakespeare's The Tempest, presented by Casting Hall Productions and the Performing Arts Department, directed by Drew Kahn. Performances run October 27 through November 5 at the Warren Enters Theatre in Upton Hall.

Andre DeShields to Present Workshop on September 24

Andre DeShields is receiving an honorary doctorate from Buffalo State College at the Academic Convocation. He is going to be staying several days to work with students and faculty. For those of you who don‘t know Andre, he is a fine actor (many Tony and Emmy nominations), a great speaker and a dear friend of Buffalo State College. He starred in our production of "Death of a Salesman" a few years ago. Andre will present a 3-part workshop on Friday, September 24 from 10-12 and 1-5:30. The campus community is invited to attend. More information will follow shortly.

Art Conservation Department Clinic

The Art Conservation Department will hold their annual clinic for artwork requiring conservation attention on Friday, September 24th from 9am -12noon and 2-5pm. Each year at this time, anyone may bring, by appointment only, their art or artifacts for examination of condition without charge. If an art object warrants conservation treatment which would be useful to the department's instructional program, it may be accepted by one of the faculty. Only a few appointments remain so if you are interested, please call Diana McNerney, department secretary, at 878-5025, as soon as possible.
