Student Housing Construction Begins Soon; Lot L to Close November 14

Posted:

After months of planning and preparation, construction is about to get under way on Buffalo State’s new student housing project. This new 507-bed apartment-style dormitory, to be located on Lot L, is scheduled for a spring 2011 completion. It will meet our increasing need for on-campus housing at Buffalo State.

To accommodate construction site preparation, Lot L will be removed from service permanently on Saturday, November 14. The recent addition of 159 parking spaces in Lot R and the soon-to-be-completed 411-space expansion of Lot M will more than make up for the loss of 433 spaces in Lot L.

To serve students, faculty, and staff who park in lots along Rockwell Road and Letchworth Street, a new shuttle service linking Lots M, G, and C is being planned. Please check the Daily or www.buffalostate.edu/construction for the shuttle schedule and service commencement date.

Questions about this project can be e-mailed to VPFM@buffalostate.edu.

Outdoor Alert Horn and NY-Alert Test Today, October 20

Posted:

The Emergency Response Planning Group and University Police will conduct a test of the college’s Outdoor Emergency Alert Horn at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 20. People who are outdoors during the test will hear a series of three loud one-minute horn blasts emanating from the central heating plant. Please note: the horn is primarily intended to be audible at outdoor locations on campus—not inside buildings.

Approximately one hour before the horn sounds, at 12:30 p.m., the college will issue a campuswide test of the NY-Alert emergency communication system. At this time, all students, faculty, and staff who have registered with the service will be sent a test alert via text message, automated phone message, e-mail, or fax. In a real emergency, the horn will sound for five full minutes. If a real emergency alert is signaled, immediately seek shelter and await further instructions communicated via NY-Alert, e-mail, www.buffalostate.edu, or direct instructions from University Police.

Faculty and staff may register for NY-Alert through the SUNY employee portal. Students can register through Banner. Thank you for your patience as we test these critical emergency notification systems.

SEFA/United Way 2009 Campaign Launched with 50 Campus Supporters in Attendance

Posted:

Thank you for your  support at the 2009 SEFA/United Way Campaign Kick-Off. Approximately 50 solicitors including faculty, staff, and students spent their lunch-hour at the Kick-Off held at E.H. Butler Library on Thursday, October 1, 2009. It was a pleasure welcoming Buffalo State students, faculty, staff, and guests in officially kicking off the Campaign. Interim President Dennis Ponton and Tim Doolittle 2009 United Way Campaign Chair brought greetings from the United Way.

Campus support for this initiative was also evident at the Kick-Off scheduled during our 3rd shift, where 30 members of the Buffalo State family attended in the Classroom Building on Wednesday September 30 at 6:00 a.m. We were are especially pleased that Matthew Levin-Stankevich, Director of Strategic Development of the United Way, was available to address the 3rd shift staff.

Our goal this year is to continue the Buffalo State College tradition of giving with 100% participation of all departments. I look forward to surpassing our goal and seeing all of you at our closing ceremony.

Thank you, again.
Vice President Kardonsky
2009 SEFA/United Way Campaign Chair

Registration Override Information

Posted:

Before granting a registration override for a student, check all the restrictions that apply to your course. If you're not sure which restrictions apply, you should contact your department. Granting special approval (instructor permission) will not let a student register for a section if other restrictions apply, such as major, class, or Level. Also, if the section is full (closed), you will need to grant a capacity override. For more information on granting overrides, visit www.buffalostate.edu/banner/x567.xml.
