PSC Summer Fun Corn Fest 2015

The Professional Staff Caucus will hold its annual PSC Corn Fest on Wednesday, July 22, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Perry Quad (rain location: Ice Arena). The committee is planning an exciting summer fun theme and a menu that includes Sahlen’s hot dogs, all-you-can-eat corn, and picnic fare. Proceeds will go toward the PSC Scholarship Fund. If you would like to donate a raffle item, please contact Debbi Sarratori, assistant director of medical administration in the Weigel Health Center, 878-6711.

Tickets will soon be available for purchase. The committee is seeking individuals to serve on the planning committee or to volunteer. Please contact Jude Jayatilleke, senior academic adviser for the Education Opportunity Program, 878-6028.

Darien Lake Picnic Day: June 20

Buffalo State faculty and staff members are invited to enjoy a day of fun at Darien Lake with family, friends, and alumni on Saturday, June 20. Tickets are $30 a person and include parking, admission, and a lunch buffet. Friends and family members are encouraged to attend, and children under age 2 are free.

Come anytime during park hours to enjoy the Darien Lake park and water attractions on your own, then join our group for a buffet-style catered lunch at 12:30 p.m. in the picnic pavilion. Darien Lake’s hours of operation are 10:30 a.m.–10:00 p.m. The menu will include barbecued chicken, hamburgers and hot dogs, mustard potato salad, fruit salad, Perry's ice cream novelties, and Coca-Cola fountain beverages.

Registration for this event will be open until Wednesday, June 10. Tickets to the park, parking passes, and wristbands for access to the picnic pavilion will be mailed to registrants after June 10.

Nepal Earthquake Fundraising Event: May 17

Members of the Nepali community in Buffalo, including Buffalo State’s Nepali Student Association, will hold a fundraising event, "Earthquake Relief Fund Nepal," on Sunday, May 17, in the Campbell Student Union Social Hall from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. This event will include a presentation on Nepal and Buffalo’s Bhutanese Nepali community along with traditional Nepali music, dance, and food. A prayer and candlelight vigil and moment of silence will be held to commemorate those whose lives were lost. The event is free (donations suggested) and open to the public.

The devastation resulting from the earthquake in Nepal on April 25 was exacerbated by a second quake on May 12. In this time of tragedy, the people of Nepal need the support of the world community. Earthquake Relief Fund Nepal will provide a time to come together and help the victims receive needed services as soon as possible. Nepal Earthquake Relief Fundraiser: May 17

The Buffalo State Community Academic Center and Buffalo’s Bhutanese/Nepali community invite you to a community fundraising event to benefit the victims of the 2015 earthquake in Nepal on Sunday, May 17, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Campbell Student Union Social Hall. All proceeds will benefit those in need.

We will share:
? Prayer and candlelight vigil for the victims of the earthquake
? A moment of silence commemorating those who lost their lives
? Mantra for Peace chanting
? Guided meditation
? Presentation on Nepal and Buffalo’s Bhutanese Nepali Community
? Traditional Nepali music and dance
? Traditional Nepali food

Suggested donation is $10 per person. Checks should be made payable to the International Institute of Buffalo with "Earthquake relief fund Nepal" on the memo line.

Friday Morning Masses at the Newman Center

Come and celebrate Mass on the First Friday of each month at 8:00 a.m. in the Newman Center Chapel, 1219 Elmwood Avenue. We will gather for Mass and start the month with a renewed perspective. Stay for a cup of coffee afterward or take a cup to go. Our Friday celebrations will be May 8, June 5, July 3, and August 7. All are welcome.

Child Care Center Summer Camp

The Buffalo State Child Care Center offers a school-age summer camp program for children who have completed kindergarten through age 10. The camp will run from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday, June 29, through Thursday, August 27. The cost is $180 a week for full-time attendance. Breakfast, lunch, and snack are provided. 

Campers will enjoy many field trips and on-site enrichment programs. Please call 878-5335 for more information.
