Eight of our student veterans and military personnel will participate in a challenging military 10K road march on August 24, carrying rucksacks (backpacks) filled with 50 pounds of canned goods. We will be collecting canned goods (the heavier the better) on Wednesday, August 14, to support our students participating in this event. Our goal is 400 pounds. The Buffalo State Food Pantry is one of three food pantries to benefit from this event.

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo has directed that flags on state government buildings be flown at half-staff on Friday, July 26, 2013, in honor of a Fort Drum soldier who died in Landstuhl, Germany, on July 22, as the result of injuries suffered in a non-combat-related incident in Andar, Afghanistan.

Army Specialist Anthony R. Maddox was assigned to the 10th Brigade Support Battalion of the 1st Brigade Combat Team, part of the 10th Mountain Division. He was a resident of Port Arthur, Texas.

“On behalf of all New Yorkers, I extend my deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Specialist Anthony Maddox,” Governor Cuomo said. “Though we are saddened by the death of this young soldier, we are proud of, and grateful for, his service to our country. We all join in mourning his loss.”

Governor Cuomo has directed that the flags on all state buildings be lowered to half-staff in honor of and in tribute to our state’s service members and those stationed in New York who are killed in action or die in a combat zone.
