Temporary Closure of Bacon Hall Entrances

Posted:

The Bacon Hall northwest entrance will close on Friday, August 9, and will remain closed for approximately two weeks. The building’s northeast entrance will be closed from Saturday, August 10, through Monday, August 12; however, the northeast doorway will continue to serve as an accessible entrance during this period. Contractors will pause their work to accommodate those requiring accessible entry.

Bacon Hall’s two south entrances will reopen on August 9, along with entrances to Rockwell Hall and the Donald Savage Building, as well as nearby sidewalks that have been closed to accommodate the rehabilitation of underground utilities.

Questions about this work may be e-mailed to vpfm@buffalostate.edu. For more information about Buffalo State capital projects, please visit the campus construction website.

Your patience and understanding are greatly appreciated.

Recycling Totals for Electronic Media

Posted:

In each main department, copy room, and mail room, red bins are available for the recycling of electronic media, such as printer and toner cartridges, VHS and cassette tapes, CDs, DVDs, and batteries.

Custodians empty full red bins into a larger yellow bin in each building. When yellow bins are full, Business Services replaces them with empty yellow bins. This program has been in place since 2006, and the campus has seen a steady growth in the program as participation has become habit within the departments.

In 2011, 5,957 pounds of electronic media were collected. This increased in 2012 to 9,964 pounds, and so far in 2013, a total of 4,262 pounds has been collected and recycled.

Check out the totals for the last year at www.buffalostate.edu/orgs/evergreen/cartrecycle.htm; select "Electronic Media Recycling Totals Chart."

Professional Development Webinar on Accessibility: A Clear Standard for Access to Instruction

Posted:

Join a nationally recognized panel of experts as they present important highlights of recent cases, discuss campus obligations for accessibility in online environments, and outline concrete steps to review, plan, and refine campus online access policies and delivery methods. The Department of Justice announced a settlement agreement with Louisiana Tech University on July 23, 2013, resolving a complaint about inaccessible course materials. This is the latest in a series of recent collaborative efforts of regulatory and enforcement agencies as they interpret colleges’ obligations under the Americans with Disabilities Act. The presentation will be aired on Thursday, August 29, from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. in the Professional Development Center, E. H. Butler Library 181B.

The time is now to evaluate the accessibility of online and electronic instruction and services and to begin to remove barriers.

In an effort to better serve the campus community, Parking Services is now filling faculty and staff requests for parking permit stickers online at www.buffalostate.edu/parkingservices. Employees may log on to the system with their campus user names and passwords. Permits may be sent via U.S. mail to the employee’s address of record or picked up in the Parking Services Office, Chase Hall 126. Employees must show a valid form of photo ID when picking up a parking permit.

Staff members who do not have a campus user name and password will be required to apply in person for their parking permit in the Parking Services Office. Permits are no longer available from the Student Accounts Office.

All permits will be required to be paid by debit or credit card at the time of the request.

University Police will begin ticketing for no-permit violations Tuesday, September 3. If you have elected to have your permit mailed to you and have not yet received it by this date, please stop at University Police or Parking Services to obtain a temporary permit for the day.

We look forward to providing this opportunity to go green and help create a smoother transition for the upcoming semester.
