Stephen F. Saracino, Art and Design

Stephen Saracino, professor of art and design, has been selected by nationally renowned exhibition curator Gail Brown to be part of an exhibit titled Mastery in Jewelry & Metals: Irresistible Offerings! celebrating the Society of North American Goldsmiths (SNAG) 50th anniversary as an organization. Ms. Brown chose 42 metalsmiths to participate in the exhibition that will be held at Gallery 2052 in North Chicago in conjunction with the SNAG convention. The exhibit will run from May 1 until the end of June. Mr. Saracino's artwork chosen by Ms. Brown is titled Pineapple of Anguish.

Mr. Saracino’s work is referenced from an existing medieval torture device titled "The Pear of Anguish." It contains exacting technical and psychological sensitivities from the grotesque original and was designed to become a "transformation upgrade," allowing for a more contemporaneous reaction to the human torture used by the Bush administration in the 2001 Iraq War. The work has been included in two other national invitational exhibits over the past four years.
