Bacon Hall and Ketchum Hall Exterior Rehabilitations Begin This Week

Posted:

As part of Buffalo State's ongoing effort to address critical maintenance needs, facades on Bacon, Ketchum, and Rockwell halls and the Donald Savage Building will be restored beginning this summer. Improvements will include brick masonry, stone restoration, and door and window replacement. Work is scheduled to begin on Bacon and Ketchum halls this week and continue for the summer. Additional Daily Bulletin notices will advise the campus community when work will proceed to other buildings.

As part of the project, asbestos-containing caulk will be removed and abated from window lintels. Work will be conducted by a contractor and monitored by an independent consultant to ensure that abatement operations are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations.

Window lintels and caulk will be removed and replaced from the exterior, after windows and room air conditioners have been enclosed in plastic from the interior. The plastic will remain on each window for approximately one day. Occupants of Bacon and Ketchum halls are asked to move objects away from windows and clear off window sills in preparation. Building occupants and visitors should expect minor disruptions from noise, vibration, and dust.

Please refer to www.buffalostate.edu/construction for further information about current and upcoming construction on campus. Questions about this project can be directed to vpfm@buffalostate.edu. Your cooperation, patience, and understanding are greatly appreciated.

Buffalo State Dining Wins Bronze Award for Catering Special Event in 2012 NACUFS Loyal E. Horton Dining Awards

Posted:

The National Association of College and University Food Services—NACUFS—has announced the winners of its annual Loyal E. Horton Dining Awards. In college and university culinary arts, the ultimate professional tribute is a NACUFS Loyal E. Horton Award. This award celebrates exemplary menus, presentations, special-event planning, and new dining concepts and provides an avenue for sharing ideas and creative presentations in campus dining services.

Buffalo State Dining won the bronze award for its Manners Matter Etiquette Dinner entry in the Catering Special Event category. Manners Matter was developed by the Buffalo State Career Development Center and the campus’s Hospitality and Tourism Department, who worked in conjunction with Chartwells to create an event to help students gain the confidence and poise they need in a professional setting by learning to make positive first impressions, how to network and mingle during business meals, how to manage a place setting, and how to use utensils correctly.

Request for Registration Override

Posted:

Starting Tuesday, May 22, when a student attempts to register in Banner and receives a registration add error, an e-mail message will automatically be sent to his or her Buffalo State e-mail account. This e-mail will provide detailed information including the actual error message the student received and the instructor's Buffalo State e-mail address. The student can then forward this e-mail to the instructor to request an override. The e-mail will contain all relevant information related to the student, the registration add error, and the course name and  reference number (CRN). The instructor can then grant the override if the student meets the necessary criteria to be registered in the course. Faculty members should begin to expect e-mails with the subject heading "Request for Registration Override" starting tomorrow.
