Campus House will be open for lunch, business, and networking hours on Friday, May 18, in spite of the east end closure of Iroquois Drive. Our new summer menu and a variety of lunch specials are being featured. The outdoor patio is open for your dining pleasure. 'Restoring Dignity through the Arts' at the Burchfield Penney Art Center

Individuals recovering from mental illness or substance abuse will share their journeys through artwork in a special exhibit titled Restoring Dignity through the Arts, on view Saturday, May 19, from noon to 5:00 p.m. in the Burchfield Penney Art Center.

Through painting, sculpture, weaving, photography, poetry, music, and video, artists 18 and older will illustrate the need for acceptance, dignity, and social inclusion for people in recovery. Both Native and non-Native artists from Western New York and Southern Ontario will contribute to the exhibit. A panel of judges will select works for an exhibit to tour various locations in Western New York. The artworks will also be displayed at www.wnyil.org and www.wnyil.org/oahiio. Other activities scheduled to take place during the exhibit include a wellness fair, a cultural diversity performance, and an exhibit of posters chosen to promote Restoring Dignity through the Arts activities and related exhibits. For more information, contact Allen Jamieson, coordinator of the exhibit, 603-4546.

The show is jointly sponsored by Western New York Independent Living Inc., OAHIIO, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), and the Exceptional Education Department and School of Education at Buffalo State College.

Camp UpRising for Curious, Imaginative, and Adventurous Children Ages 10-18

The Buffalo State College International Center for Studies in Creativity will present Camp UpRising, a full-day camp for curious, imaginative, and adventurous children ages 10–18, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. August 6–10. The cost is $200. Lunch is included.

Campers will learn through experiential learning methods and will work on individual and group projects in a fun and creative environment. All staff will be trained experts from the creative studies program.

Camp objectives include discovering and driving creative thinking for the twenty-first century by answering the following questions:

  1. In what ways am I creative?
  2. What are all the ways in which people are creative?
  3. How might we use our unique creative strengths when we collaborate?
  4. How might we use tools and techniques to empower our creativity?
  5. What might be all the attitudes that embrace creativity?
  6. How might we use our creativity on demand to make a difference?

Are You Getting Rid of That?

Unneeded property should not be left in the hallway or on the loading dock. When property is no longer needed, please send an original surplus form to Business Services.

The form must be signed by the department chair or director or it will be returned. When the completed form is received, a work order will be placed for the removal of the property.
