AFP 2012 Highlight: Featured Visual Artists

Posted:

Please join the Anne Frank Project's fourth annual conference, "AFP 2102: Embracing Responsibility," September 12–15 on the Buffalo State campus. Free to all.

The Anne Frank Project is proud to feature two extraordinary visual artists, Harold L. Cohen and Ben Perrone,  at AFP 2012. Their work shines poignant light on this year's theme, Embracing Responsibility. Please come by the galleries in Upton Hall to witness their work, stories, and powerful statements.

Harold L. Cohen
Our Inhumanity
Harold Cohen was trained in the Bauhaus tradition of design and art. He served as dean and professor of the School of Architecture and Planning at the University at Buffalo (1974–1990). After retirement, he returned to art and printmaking in his studio in downtown Buffalo. Combining his religion, design, and art studies, Cohen has produced a collection of more than 400 prints with paintings and sculpture in several media.

Ben Perrone
Reversing Negativity
An award-winning Western New York artist, Ben Perrone studied at the Albright Art School. He received a scholarship to the Yale University School of Art in Norfolk, and he studied with Bernard Chaet. His steel and mixed-media sculpture was purchased by the Burchfield Penney Art Center. A long-term studio assistant to artist Adele Cohen, he held his first show in New York City with Cohen, Robert Squeri, and Roland Wise. Perrone co-directed Zuni Gallery, one of first to show Pop and Op Art. He later retrained in graphic arts and worked for Sti-Co Industries until his retirement. His major installation titled “War Ongoing Project,” commemorating the Vietnam War, was mounted at the Burchfield Penney Art Center in 2010. His "Illusion/Delusion," commemorating men lost in Iraq, was acquired by the BPAC.
