Tell Students: Job Fair 2011

Job Fair 2011 will be held Thursday, March 10, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Campbell Student Union Social Hall. Representatives from local, regional, and national employers will come to the Buffalo State campus to interview students and alumni from all majors for full-time job opportunities. Students need to dress in professional interviewing attire and bring multiple copies of their resumes to leave with prospective employers.

Spring Undergraduate Open House

The Admissions Office will be hosting its Spring Open House for accepted students and their families, Saturday, April 16, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The program is designed to highlight academic departments and demonstrate why Buffalo State College is the best choice for these students. 

In addition to showcasing academic departments, students will be able to meet with student support services, discuss financial aid options, and explore career opportunities. The program begins in Rockwell Hall. For more information or to volunteer, please contact Mary Finger at ext. 3649.

USG Valentine Flower Sale

The United Students Government (USG) is selling roses for Valentine's Day at a discounted rate for students, faculty, and staff! Three single roses are $5. A dozen roses is $15. Roses can be purchased at the Student Union Box Office, Monday–Friday, 11:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. until February 11. Cash and credit accepted. Brighten someone's day, purchase your valentine flowers today and pick them up on February 14. For more information, please call the USG Office at ext. 6701.

Second Annual Campus Ice Skating Party: This Friday

Only two days left to purchase your tickets for the Campus Ice Skating Party and lunch! All staff and faculty are invited to join in the fun at the Buffalo State Ice Arena, Friday, March 11, from noon to 1:50 p.m. Whether you're a professional skater or it's your first time, come out and join PSC for an afternoon of icy antics! Not a skater? Come cheer on your fellow co-workers and enjoy lunch in the stands! 

Cost is $5 for skating and lunch and $3 for lunch only (skate rental available for $2). Pre-purchased tickets arerequired for lunch! Tickets available at the Admissions Office (Moot 110) from Mary Finger and Carolyn Murphy until Wednesday, March 9.

SIFOC Faculty and Staff Feedback Forums

The Senate Intellectual Foundations Oversight Committee (SIFOC) is currently overseeing the five-year review of the Intellectual Foundations Program. SIFOC seeks to hear from as many members of the campus community as possible concerning Buffalo State’s general education program. 

A series of faculty and staff feedback forums will be conducted to collect qualitative data to be used in the evaluation of the program. Forums have been scheduled to provide maximal convenience. Faculty and staff wishing to participate in a feedback forum are asked to R.S.V.P. Please e-mail Linda Schultz with your preferred date of participation at least one day prior to the event.

Grant Allocation Committee Request for Proposals

The Grant Allocation Committee (GAC) is requesting proposals from individuals, departments, and student clubs and organizations for funding of programs, speakers, and events to take place during the 2011–2012 academic year. 

The deadline for submitting applications under this funding cycle is Friday, April 15, for summer and fall 2011; Friday, September 16, for fall 2011 and spring 2012 program proposals; Friday, November 18, for spring 2012 program proposals. 

An application for funding and complete details of requirements may be found online. New this year, in an effort to cut cost and in line with our efforts to go green, all proposals will only be accepted electronically atstudentaffairs@buffalostate.edu.

Celebrate Mardi Gras in Resident Dining with Live Music

Enjoy the tastes and sounds of Mardi Gras in the Resident Student Dining Facility. Ron Davis (aka LeeRon Zydeco) will be performing today, Tuesday, March 8, from noon to 1:00 p.m. Davis is a local musician who plays Cajun and Zydeco music on accordion. 

Creole cuisine will be served at the various stations. Spice up your day with some jambalaya, a "Rajun Cajun" burger at the Grill or a New Orleans muffaleta sandwich at the Deli. Resident Dining is open to all students, faculty, and staff. Lunch price is $7.99 for all-you-can-eat. Meal Swipes, Flex Dollars, Bengal Bucks, cash, and credit are accepted.

Please inform your students about “Experience 2011,” an interactive, career-building event like nothing the Buffalo State campus has ever seen! Experience 2011 will be held Thursday, March 3, from 12:15 to 2:15 p.m. in the Campbell Student Union Social Hall. This event will give current students the opportunity to develop the key skills needed to make the most of job fairs and give them the opportunity to make personal connections with successful Buffalo State alumni! SUNY B-140W Tuition Assistance Program for Faculty and Staff

The deadline to submit applications for the SUNY B-140W Tuition Assistance Program for the spring 2011 semester is Monday, February 28, 2011.

Staff members may apply for tuition assistance after six months of service; faculty members may apply after one semester of service. The following employees are eligible:

-Full-time Buffalo State faculty and professional or classified employees.

-Part-time and/or temporary Buffalo State faculty and professional or classified employees who are employed at least half time (faculty must teach at least two courses in the semester).

-Full-time Research Foundation employees provided they work on the Buffalo State campus.

Program funds may be used for courses at SUNY campuses only. Eligible employees may apply for a 50 percent waiver of SUNY tuition for up to two courses per semester, to a maximum of 15 credit hours per academic year. Tuition assistance is limited to regular in-state undergraduate or graduate tuition rates. The level of support may be adjusted when necessary if funding is not adequate to cover applications received.
