On October 12, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. in E. H. Butler Library 210, learn about what it means to be a refugee from the people who’ve lived it. Individuals from Burma, Liberia, Rwanda, Bhutan, Sudan, and Somalia will tell their personal stories of life before and after coming to Buffalo. In addition, a member of Buffalo’s refugee resettlement community will go over the logistics of how refugees end up in Buffalo and what exactly the resettlement process entails. Refreshments and light hors d’oeuvres will be provided.

Representatives from Buffalo Seminary will be on campus on Monday, October 4, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., in E. H. Butler Library 208. You’re invited to stop by for some lunch and learn more about the Buffalo Seminary, Western New York’s only independent college-preparatory school for girls. Please join the Great Lakes Center for a seminar titled, "Aral Sea Ecological Crisis and Invasive Fishes in the Aral Sea Basin, Central Asia." The presenter is Ernest Khurshut, Ph.D., Institute of Zoology Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Tashkent, Uzbekistan. The seminar is Thursday, September 30, at 12:15 p.m. during Bengal Pause and is being held in Classroom Building B119. Faculty, staff, and students are welcome. Light refreshments will be served.

The purpose of the meeting is to set the agenda for the upcoming year and to discuss how the Graduate School Office is serving your needs. As a result of legislation passed in June, there will be a rate change for NYSHIP enrollees effective October 1, 2010. The new rates will be reflected in the September 29 paycheck.
