New Paintings by Nathan Naetzker

New paintings by Nathan Naetzker, a painting/drawing lecturer in the Fine Arts Department, will be showcased during an opening reception at ARTSPACE Buffalo, located at 1219 Main Street, on Friday, October 1, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Music will be provided by local recording artists John and Mary. Gallery hours are Saturday and Sunday, noon to 4:00 p.m.; and by appointment, Wednesday through Friday, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. All are welcome.

Build Your Own Kayak at the Buffalo Maritime Center

The Buffalo Maritime Center is having an open house from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 6, at the new facility at 1250 Niagara Street, about one block north of Rich Products. You can meet the instructors and get information on classes and workshops on kayak, canoe, and skiff building, which begin the week of October 18. Refugee Awareness Project: Community Marketplace

On October 13, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., stop by the Campbell Student Union and learn more about 15 refugee-serving organizations, and opportunities for service and involvement. Organizations will include Journey’s End Refugee Services, the West Side Bazaar Initiative, Jericho Road Ministries, and Catholic Charities Refugee Resettlement among many others.

Academic Challenge/Rigor Study Presentation

The Carnegie Academy for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (CASTL) presents the second stage of a research study on Academic Challenge/Rigor. The talk will be held on October 14 from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m. in Classroom Building B118. It will include a brief history of the study, as well as some of the preliminary results from the focus interviews conducted over the summer and emerging themes for discussion. A longer version of the work will be delivered to the International Society for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning later in the month. All full and part-time faculty members are invited to attend.
