Kids Art Class Saturday at the Burchfield Penney

Posted:

Swirling the architectural themes of the Beyond/In works at the Burchfield Penney Art Center with the curvilinear design of the building itself, Amanda Besl (a 2007 Beyond/In artist) will ask children to wrap their minds around a screwy question: what if you lived in a spiral house? From shells, and snails, and turtles (oh my!), children will investigate the nature of personal living spaces and design their own spiraling house?

Growing out of these conversations, this third discussion will focus on various forms of the privilege accorded to high status groups such as heterosexuals, men, and white individuals. The conversation will center on ways to acknowledge, explore, and discuss privilege in the college classroom. In addition, the group will discuss strategies for how to avoid the perpetuation of privilege in other areas of campus life. A light lunch will be provided on Friday, November 19, from noon to 1:00 p.m. in the Professional Development Center, E. H. Butler Library 181B. Facilitated by Pixita del Prado Hill.
