Career Options for History Majors and Minors

Want to find a job after graduation? The History and Social Studies Education Department and the Career Development Center (CDC) are hosting a workshop on career options for history majors and minors, Tuesday, February 23, from 12:05 to 1:30 p.m. in Classroom Building B118. Faculty and CDC staff will discuss careers outside of the classroom, how to market skills learned as a history major/minor, where to look for job ads, and an introduction to the services offered by the CDC.

Next Tuesday, February 23, at 12:15 p.m. in Bulger Communication Center North 2C, students can find out how to earn six to ten undergraduate or graduate credits studying French in Quebec this summer. They will learn about how financial aid applies and about scholarships that are available. Please encourage them not to miss out on this affordable way to develop their language skills!

138th Commencement: Faculty and Staff Invited to March and Volunteer

All faculty and staff are invited to celebrate with the Buffalo State Class of 2010 by marching or volunteering in the 138th Commencement on Saturday, May 15. Baccalaureate ceremonies take place at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. The Master's and Certificate of Advanced Studies ceremony is at 6:00 p.m. All ceremonies are held in the Sports Complex with a festive reception immediately following each in the Campbell Student Union.

Mac Software Upgrades: iLife '09 and iWork '09

Computing and Technology Services will deploy iLife '09 and iWork '09 to all campus Macs on Tuesday, February 16. The upgrades will be performed during the hours of 4:00 and 6:00 a.m. to minimize the disruption to daily work activities. If you use a campus owned Mac laptop (MacBook or MacBook Pro), your laptop must be connected to the campus network and plugged into a power source in order to receive these updates. If it's not connected during the installation window, it will receive the updates the next time it is connected to the network.

Please join the Theater Department's first collaboration with the Burchfield Penney as we present Neil LaBute's The Shape of Things. While visiting an art museum, a nerdy college student named Adam meets an iconoclastic artist named Evelyn and is instantly smitten. As their relationship develops, she gradually encourages Adam to change in various ways that surprise his older friends, Jenny and Philip. However, as events progress, Evelyn's antics become darker and darker as her influence begins to twist Adam and his friends in hurtful ways.

CASTL Accepting Fellowship Applications

The Carnegie Academy for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (CASTL) is now accepting applications for three one-year, $3,000 faculty development fellowships to promote the scholarship of teaching and learning on campus. All tenured and tenure-track Buffalo State faculty members are eligible to apply. Priority will be given to proposals that focus on: (1) Promoting Academic Challenge; (2) Active and Collaborative Learning; (3) Enriching Educational Experiences; and (4) Student Faculty Interaction.
