Nominations for Chancellor's Awards and Distinguished Professor

The campus community is encouraged to submit nominations for Chancellor’s Awards for Excellence in Teaching; Professional Service; Librarianship; Scholarship and Creative Activities; and Faculty Service; as well as Distinguished Teaching Professor and Distinguished Service Professor. Nominations are due to the provost by Monday, October 19. Guidelines are available on the Academic Affairs Web site under the Faculty and Staff Awards link.

McNair Scholars Applebee's Flapjack Fundraiser

The McNair Scholars Alumni Chapter would like to invite you to attend their Flapjack Scholarship Fundraiser on Sunday, October 18, at the Applebee’s on Delaware Avenue. You can have breakfast in the restaurant anytime between 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. Tickets for the event are $5 and Applebee’s will donate 80 percent of the proceeds to the David Matyjasik Scholarship Fund, named in honor of a McNair Scholar who tragically passed away in 2003. <em>Journey of Dreams</em>

There will be an unveiling and reception for the exhibit Journey of Dreams, created by artists Lin Xia Jiang, professor, Fine Arts Department, and Justin Dahl, a graduate of Buffalo State's fine arts program and a Radford University Fine Arts graduate student. This Asian/Asian American Art Project has been commissioned by Canisius College. This event will be held on Wednesday, September 9, at 12:15 p.m. in Canisius College's Richard E. Winter '42 Student Center, Grupp Fireside Lounge, on Hughes Street in Buffalo, New York. This event is free and open to the public. Free parking is available on campus for this event. Interested in Being a Part of the Women's Studies Program?

The Women's Studies Interdisciplinary Unit welcomes participation from faculty and staff members. The committee oversees the Women's Studies minor, plans events to increase awareness of women's and gender issues on campus, and promotes scholarly activity related to women and gender. Current committee members include faculty and professional staff from Natural and Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities, the School of the Professions, the Libraries, Student Affairs, and other units on campus.

Emerging Technology Discussion: Real-Time Information "The Power of Twittering"

Join others from campus interested in discussing societal, academic, and personal impacts of emerging technology. The September 16 discussion, from noon to 1:00 p.m. in Bulger Communication Center 104 will focus on the role of Twitter in the recent elections in Iran and other instances where real-time updates made a significant societal impact. This is the first of a monthly series of brown bag discussions on emerging technology issues.
