Traffic Advisory

The New York State Thruway Authority has announced I-190 northbound between Exit 9 (Peace Bridge-Canada-Porter Avenue) and Exit 14 (Ontario Street) will be closed from 8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 11, until 6:00 a.m. on Monday, September 14, for full depth reconstruction. This project will necessitate the same closure on weekends through November 1, 2009, weather permitting. A signed detour route will be in place for northbound motorists directing traffic from I-190 at Exit 9 (Peace Bridge-Canada-Porter Avenue) to Niagara Street northbound, past the Scajaquada Expressway (I-198) until Exit 14 (Ontario Street). Motorists can re-enter I-190 northbound at Exit 14. The westbound Scajaquada will also be closed to traffic wishing to enter I-190 northbound. This traffic will also be detoured northbound to Niagara Street.

Homecoming / Family Weekend Has Something for Everyone

Faculty and staff are urged to join the fun during "Unleash the Roar, Homecoming / Family Weekend 2009" running Tuesday, September 22, through Saturday, September 26. There's something for everyone to enjoy: A Pep Rally in Perry Quad on Thursday, September 24, during Bengal Pause; Comedy Night at the Performing Arts Center at Rockwell on Friday, September 25; and the annual parade and victory march the morning of Saturday, September 26, followed by a giant tailgate party featuring a chicken barbeque and live music courtesy of Herd of Buffalo inside the Sports Arena. And don't forget to register for the annual Wegmans Shopping Cart Float competition to win great prizes.

Presentation: Ice Boom Myth Busters

Dr. Stephen Vermette (Geography and Planning Department) will join Mr. Don Paul (WIVB-TV News 4) on Saturday, September 12, to talk about the impact of the ice boom on Buffalo's spring temperatures. The presentations will be a part of festivities taking place at the Erie Canal Harbor at Canal Side (Central Wharf). The presentations will last 15 minutes and be given on the hour from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. The presentations are part of a summer lecture series, sponsored by the Buffalo Weather Experience Center.

<em>Writing Pictures: Art/TextWorks from the Gerald Mead Collection</em>

This exhibition of prints, photographs, paintings, drawings, and sculptures, selected from the extensive collection of noted Buffalo artist and educator Gerald Mead, demonstrates the various ways that artists associated with Western New York have explored, the connections between written language and imagery through their work. Works by AP Gorny, associate professor of Fine Arts, specializing in printmaking, will be included. Opening reception is Friday, September 11, from 6: 00 to 9:00 p.m. at the WNY Book Arts Center, 468 Washington Street, Buffalo, NY 14203. Gallery hours are Wednesday through Saturday, from noon to 6:00 p.m.

Withdrawal From Course or School and Financial Aid Eligibility

Withdrawing from a class or from school may affect a student's eligibility for financial aid in both the current and future semesters. Similarly, if they simply stop attending classes, i.e., unofficially withdraw, they may forfeit aid for the current semester and be ineligible for aid in future semesters. Please be familiar with the policies before recommending that a student withdraw from classes.
