Buffalo State will welcome its incoming first-year students with First-Year Convocation on Wednesday, August 26, at 9:00 a.m. This event will open the new First-Year Week of Welcome for our new students and their families.

The Budget and Staff Allocations Committee (BSAC) needs members. Dr. M. Scott Goodman, chair of the BSAC, is in need of members for the 2009-2010 academic year. Please go to the committees page on the College Senate Web site and fill out a Committee Interest Form. The senate seeks your support for all if its eight standing committees.

1300 Elmwood, the college's magazine for alumni and friends, is always looking for successful graduates of Buffalo State. Do you want to recommend someone for us to profile? Send his or her name, major, graduation year, contact information, and a brief description of what they're doing and why you recommend them to Ann Brown, assistant vice president for College Relations and editor of 1300 Elmwood.

A collection of school supplies is being conducted for the flood victims of Gowanda and Silver Creek. Items such as tablet paper, binders, notebooks, pens, pencils, backpacks, etc. are greatly appreciated. Drop off boxes will be available through Monday, August 31, in the following locations:

On the morning of Wednesday, August 26, over 1,500 students and 400 parents, guests, and family members will be on campus attending First-Year Convocation. Will you be participating?

Buffalo State students are invited to join the staff at the Newman Center for our Day of Welcome, Sunday, August 30. We begin with Mass in our Chapel at 1219 Elmwood Avenue at 11:30 a.m., followed by a BBQ lunch open to all students and their families. At 2:00 p.m., students will depart for a tour of Niagara Falls. The 2009 NYSCATE (New York State Association for Computers and Technologies in Education) conference is seeking proposals from those working in higher education. The conference will be held November 22–24, in Rochester, New York.
