Postpartum Depression Community Advisory Meeting

The Social Work Department is hosting a postpartum depression advisory meeting for health/mental health professionals, educators, spiritual directors, and students on Wednesday, April 4, in Classroom Building C122 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. Come to learn more about what professionals, educators, and spiritual directors need to know to help these women, children, and families. You will hear personal examples from a woman who experienced postpartum ocd, a case study from a psychiatrist who specializes in women's health, and results of an access to postpartum depression care study. Your active participation is encouraged as we brainstorm ways to address postpartum depression in Erie County. March 15: Rooftop Poetry Reading

Please join the Rooftop Poetry Club for a special reading featuring accomplished poets and translators of Latin American poetry Rosa Alcalá and Kristin Dykstra at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 15, in Butler Library 210. Currently assistant professor in the Bilingual Creative Writing Department at the University of Texas at El Paso, Alcalá has published poetry and translations in a variety of literary magazines, including The Kenyon Review, Superflux, Bombay Gin, P-Queue, Chain, Mandorla, and XCP (Cross Cultural Poetics). Dykstra's "The Winter Garden Photograph," a translation of Reina Maria Rodriguez's "La Foto del Invernadero," is forthcoming from Green Integer Press.

Student Chapter of SHRM Meeting

The Buffalo State Student Chapter of the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) will hold its first meeting at 12:15 p.m. Thursday, March 15, in Classroom Building A205. Refreshments will be provided. Please share this information with any graduate or undergraduate students interested in careers involving human resources. We are looking for students to join the chapter. Open to all majors who would like to network with professionals and participate in interesting activities. Please consider using this as an extra-credit opportunity or internship experience. Want to study abroad? A financial aid workshop will be held tomorrow at 12:15 p.m. in Bulger Communication Center East. Don't assume you can't afford it. Learn how financial aid applies to study abroad, how you may qualify for additional aid, and the timeline for processing aid applications. Find out about scholarships that are available, and other creative ways that students finance participation in overseas programs.

The Rooftop Poetry Club will host a poetry reading featuring Jennifer Campbell at 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, in Butler Library 210. Campbell's poetry has been published in Earth's Daughters, A Hudson View Poetry Digest, Skyline Magazine, the Buffalo News, and ArtVoice. There will be open mic slots available following Campbell's reading.
