2007 Elms Yearbook on Sale Now

The 2007 Elms yearbook, published by the students of Buffalo State College, is now available. Copies can be obtained at the Elms Yearbook Office, Cassety Hall 117, or from the Barnes & Noble at Buffalo State Bookstore for a cost of $5 per copy. Janice Andrews, editor, has assembled a publication filled with 2006–2007 campus events and activities. The publication also features photos and articles on President Muriel A. Howard, the college administration, faculty, and staff. Don't miss your chance to get your very own copy of the 2007 Elms yearbook. They're going fast!

Deadline to Register for Computational Science Workshop Is Friday, May 11

Tomorrow is the last day to register for "Modeling as an Interactive Learning Environment: Inquiry-Based Strategies for the Classroom," an introductory workshop on computational science for the classroom held at Buffalo State June 3–9. Open to undergraduate faculty and undergraduate and graduate students, the workshop will show modeling resources and tools that are available and accessible and how these can be included as pedagogical resources. Tools include interactive numerical simulations, scientific visualizations, computer-assisted algebra systems, and data mining. Scholarships are available upon request.

2007-2008 CASTL Fellowships Awarded

The Carnegie Academy for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, with the provost and University College, is pleased to announce that three faculty members have been awarded CASTL Fellowships for the 2007–2008 academic year. The fellows’ studies will contribute to our understanding of how college students learn. The results of their work will be presented to the campus community in the fall of 2008.

Buffalo State College and the Commission on Citizen's Rights and Community Relations are co-sponsoring the 2007 Race and Reconciliation Conference on Wednesday, May 23, at Buffalo State. This year's conference is an all-day workshop focusing on special education and the overrepresentation of students of color in special education programs and referral practices.

The Buffalo State College Fitness Center is celebrating National Employee Health and Fitness Day on Wednesday, May 16. We will have an open house all day! Stop by the Fitness Center with your workout clothes and some sneakers and test drive our facility. Our staff will be available for tours on the hour from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. If you have any questions or if you would like an orientation to the equipment, you are welcome all day—free of charge!!
