Polka Mass with Band 'Special Delivery': August 20

Join the Newman Center in celebrating Our Lady of Czestochowa's feast with a Polka Mass on Sunday, August 20, at 9:30 a.m., as we honor the Black Madonna of Czestochowa, whose feast day is August 26. Mass will be celebrated at the Newman Center Chapel, 1219 Elmwood Avenue. The polka band Special Delivery will lead us in song, and Polish goodies will be available following Mass. Witamy! All are welcome!

The Newman Center Catholic Campus Ministry at Buffalo State is a source of spiritual growth and development for Buffalo State students, faculty and staff, along with an intentional community of family and friends. The Newman Center is located at 1219 Elmwood Avenue.

Beginning Piano Class: Ages 5-6

Buffalo State will offer a beginning piano class that explores piano basics and music reading with children ages 5–6 on Saturdays at 9:00 and 10:00 a.m., beginning September 9. The 10:00 a.m. class is currently full, but a few spots remain for the 9:00 a.m. class.

Class size is limited to four children, each accompanied by a parent or caregiver. Children get to know the piano as they play and make music together. Please refer any interested families.

Registration opens at the NYSUT tent at 8:30 a.m. The team will walk together and have a great time. Special treats for those with the highest pledges. See you soon and wear pink.

Today: Mass for the Feast of the Assumption

Mass for the Feast of the Assumption will be celebrated today, August 15, at 12:05 p.m. in the Campbell Student Union Assembly Hall.

The feast of the Dormition (falling asleep) of Mary was celebrated as early as the fifth century, and observed universally in the East by the end of the sixth. In the West, the feast gained wide acceptance by the seventh century and was called the Assumption.

Pizza Party Fundraiser: Thank-You

Gail Daniels and her family extend their sincere appreciation to Marcia Sypniewski and CeCe Duerr for their efforts in organizing Tuesday's fundraiser for the Steven A. Daniels campus memorial tree. UUP Fall Kickoff Barbecue: September 8

Buffalo State members of United University Professions (UUP) are invited to register online in advance for the free annual UUP Fall Kickoff Barbecue on Friday, September 8, from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Campbell Student Union Social Hall. Advance registration is required to attend the barbecue.

Enjoy delicious barbecued chicken or veggie burgers, tossed salad, corn on the cob, coleslaw, vegetarian baked beans, rolls and butter, beverages, and cake. Food is fresh from Chiavetta’s. Come and meet your UUP colleagues and enjoy quality back-to-school time together. Meet and greet state and chapter UUP leaders who will be attending the event.

The barbecue is a UUP members-only event. The registration link has been provided in e-vites already e-mailed to members. Be sure to register online for the barbecue by Thursday, August 31. If you did not receive an e-vite, please contact chapter assistant Jean Yarwood, 878-5732, by August 31.
