All members of the Teacher Education Unit (TEU) are invited to attend the Teacher Education Council (TEC) meeting on Friday, September 8, from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. in the Carmine A. Grande Conference Room, Cleveland Hall 418. This agenda for this meeting contains elections for TEC Executive Committee positions of chair, vice chair, and secretary, as well as other current issues in teacher education.

Blackboard: Professional Development Workshops for September

The following Blackboard professional development workshops will be held in September:

Blackboard Learn 9.1: Collaborate Ultra

Detailed descriptions of each workshop session (PDF, 66 KB) are available on the RITE website. All sessions will be held in Bulger Communication Center 122. Workshops can be taken independently or as part of the Blackboard Specialization Certificate Series.

All workshops are suitable for instructors teaching face-to-face, hybrid, or online courses. All workshop presentations will be one hour and are limited to 10 participants. The instructor will be available for an additional 30 minutes after each workshop for questions and discussions (optional).

Tell Graduate Students: Discounted Bus Passes Available

The Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority has issued 50 bus passes for graduate students to purchase at a discounted rate of $104. Interested students must submit this brief form by 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 6. Students will be randomly selected and notified by Friday, September 8.

Call for Submissions: Faculty-Staff Research and Creativity Fall Forum

The call for submissions for the 18th annual Faculty and Staff Research and Creativity Fall Forum is now open. This year's forum will be held on Thursday, November 2, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Houston Gym.

The goal of this forum is to develop, encourage, and support Buffalo State faculty and staff research and creativity, and to make collaborative research endeavors and grantsmanship more accessible. All faculty and staff members are invited to organize an exhibit to present current research, creative activity, or other scholarship. Individual, departmental, or group exhibits are welcome. This is an excellent opportunity to network with other Buffalo State faculty and staff members and to identify common scholarly and creative interests you may have.

To participate, please complete the online form on the Call for Submissions tab of the Fall Forum page. Titles and abstracts or descriptions are to be submitted electronically by Friday, September 29.

Please note: Display space is limited to one five-foot table or one or two easels per individual submission.

Request for Proposals: Grant Allocation Committee

The Grant Allocation Committee (GAC) requests proposals from individuals, departments, and student clubs and organizations for funding of programs, speakers, and events to take place during the 2017–2018 academic year.

The deadlines for submitting applications under this funding cycle are Friday, October 6 (extended date), for fall 2017 and spring 2018 program proposals; and Friday, November 17, for spring 2018 program proposals. Applications for funding and complete details of requirements may be found on the Student Affairs website. In an effort to cut costs and in keeping with our efforts to go green, all proposals must be submitted electronically to marzolkl@buffalostate.edu with one hard copy delivered to Cleveland Hall 513.

Digital Signage Upgrade: September 1

RITE will upgrade the college's digital signage system, Visix, on Friday September 1. All monitors will continue to play current content (described as content already on a playlist). New uploaded content (described as any content added during the upgrade) will not be displayed until after the system is upgraded. If you encounter issues post upgrade please submit a ticket via the RITE Portal.

Call for Applications: 2017-2018 Equity and Campus Diversity Program Grants

The Equity and Campus Diversity Office is pleased to announce the continuation of the Buffalo State Campus Diversity Program Grants (minigrants) for 2017–2018. Consistent with the college’s mission, minigrants provide financial assistance for projects, workshops, and activities that have institutional impact—strengthening Buffalo State’s inclusive excellence toward diversity as described by our mission statement, core values, and strategic plan. 

Applications must be submitted at least six weeks in advance of proposed events. The next project review date is Tuesday, September 15. The deadline for spring semester minigrants is Friday, February 16, 2018.

Graduate School Open House: October 7

The Graduate School will host its annual Open House on Saturday, October 7, from 10:00 a.m. to noon in the Campbell Student Union. The Open House will allow students who are interested in further pursuing their education to learn about admission requirements and the application process, explore financial aid options, meet our faculty, and attend a student panel.

All matriculated graduate students are encouraged to submit nominations to serve as senators on the Graduate Student Association or as student senators on the College Senate for 2017–2018. Students may hold both positions simultaneously. Information about the nomination process can be found on the GSA website. Nominations must be received by Wednesday, September 6.
