Accounts Payable, Travel Services Offices Merge

To support campus efficiencies and streamline operations, the Accounts Payable and Travel Services offices have merged. Mary Taylor, formerly travel services manager, will serve as director. Paula Mis, who recently retired as accounts payable manager, has graciously agreed to rejoin the office on a part-time, temporary basis to assist during the transition.

The Accounts Payable and Travel Services Office is located in Cleveland Hall 414 and can be reached at 878-4117.

College Senate Standing Committee Interest Form Now Available

If you are interested in serving on one or more of the eight College Senate standing committees for 2018–2019, please complete and submit the Standing Committee Interest Form (doc) by Friday, August 10. The forms will enable committee chairs to review a collective list of interested individuals before the first Senate meeting. Committee membership is determined solely at the discretion of committee chairs. Not all committees may need members. Please submit forms by campus mail or e-mail to Vincent Masci, assistant to the College Senate, Cleveland Hall 211. New Senator Orientation: September 6

The College Senate will hold its annual New Senator Orientation for all newly elected senators on Thursday, September 6, during Bengal Pause in the Carmine A. Grande Room, Cleveland Hall 418. This informal session, hosted by the Senate chair and parliamentarian, gives newly elected faculty, professional staff, and students the basic protocol on Senate meeting etiquette. The College Senate follows Robert’s Rules of Order as is mandated by its bylaws. Attendance is not mandatory but is strongly encouraged. Please e-mail Vincent Masci, assistant to the College Senate, or phone the office at 878-5139 with questions.

Podcasts are now the official audio record of each College Senate meeting. If you missed a Senate meeting and want to catch up, podcasts are posted to the Senate's podcasts web page. Senate meeting summaries are also posted to the website after they are presented to the Senate.

Registrar's Office: Fall 2018 Registration

Since March 16, the following changes have been made to the fall 2018 list of course offerings:

•  73 courses added
•  159 days/times changed
•  92 courses canceled

Always remind students to double-check their schedules directly in Banner for accuracy. Students can search the master schedule directly in Banner. Students can continue all registration-related activity including drop/add for fall 2018 until 11:59 p.m. Monday, September 3. Students should be encouraged to act early and complete their registration. Undergraduate students must register for at least 15 credit hours each semester to stay on track to graduate. Schedule Planner can assist students in securing their desired schedules.

Internal Search: Associate Dean, School of Natural and Social Sciences

Buffalo State seeks internal candidates for the position of associate dean of the School of Natural and Social Sciences (SNSS). This is a Management/Confidential, 12-month administrative position. The anticipated date of hire is January 1, 2019, for a three-year, renewable term.

Job Responsibilities

  • Represent SNSS on various campus committees and work groups
  • Serve as point person for SNSS curriculum revisions, program creation, program review, and catalog oversight as well as liaison for general education assessment
  • Serve as point person on evaluation of SNSS Strategic Plan action steps
  • With the dean, participate in personnel actions, such as appointment, reappointment, and promotion reviews
  • Serve as resource for faculty development, through ad hoc faculty training and as an informal resource for faculty inquiries
  • With the dean, participate in budget responsibilities such as management of the academic equipment budget, management of the temporary services budget, analysis and actions on the end-of-year budget, department budget allocations, and space issues
  • Advise students as needed
  • Teach one course per year (possibly excepting the first year of appointment)
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Full-time tenured member of the faculty in the School of Natural and Social Sciences
  • Record of successful, ongoing teaching, scholarship, and service to the college
  • Ability to professionally represent the dean and the SNSS within the college and in the community
  • Successful administrative experience and demonstrated leadership capability
  • Experience with curriculum development, assessment, and program review
  • Experience with academic advisement
  • Excellence in attention to detail and organizational, communication, administrative, and technology skills
  • Ability to model collegiality, work as a team member, and demonstrate initiative and commitment to the Buffalo State mission, vision, and values

The associate dean is privy to sensitive and confidential information. The ability to maintain confidentiality is paramount.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with managerial operations, including scheduling, fiscal management, part-time and full-time personnel actions, statistical data, and technology
  • Expertise to provide and analyze data for enrollment management and fiscal and facilities decisions
  • Knowledge of database or statistical applications and technology

Qualified candidates are invited to submit a current résumé and a cover letter addressing the required and preferred qualifications. Applications may be submitted by e-mail to search committee chair Lisa Marie Anselmi, associate professor and chair of the Anthropology Department. Review of applications will begin Monday, October 1, and continue until the position is filled.
