Events Management Office: New Location - Cleveland Hall 319

The Events Management Office is moving to Cleveland Hall 319 today, September 14. Cleveland Hall 319 is located on the west end of the building, above the School of the Professions. The office will be operating at reduced capacity today during the move but will be open for business in its new location beginning Monday, September 17.

July 1, 2018, Departmental Budget Allocations

Buffalo State received information from SUNY System Administration on July 18 concerning the process to establish departmental allocations for July 1, 2018. This multipart process takes approximately four to six weeks for the campus to complete and, after SUNY review, concludes with the posting of allocations at the account level. Recent information indicates we may expect this year's initial allocations to post in the mid- to later October timeframe. We will advise you when allocations have posted to accounts.

Podcasts are now the official audio record of each College Senate meeting. If you missed a Senate meeting and want to catch up, podcasts are posted to the Senate's podcasts web page. Senate meeting summaries are also posted to the website after they are presented to the Senate.

The first College Senate meeting of the fall 2018 semester will be held at 3:00 p.m. tomorrow, September 14, in Bulger Communication Center 214. Please note the new location. The meeting schedule and agenda are posted on the College Senate website. Please visit the College Senate website to catch up on Senate news and listen to podcasts of past meetings.

The College Senate Office is located in Cleveland Hall 211. Please join the Biology Department and the Great Lakes Center today, September 17, for the seminar "Causes and Consequences of Social Evolution in Certain Birds and Ants," presented by Gavin Leighton, assistant professor of biology at Buffalo State, from 3:00 to 4:15 p.m. in Bulger Communication Center 424. All students, staff, and faculty are welcome.

Abstract
The evolution of sociality is an important transition from solitary life to individuals living in groups. To understand why individuals might live in groups, this talk explores the factors that drive some species to living in groups. This talk then subsequently considers the consequences of sociality, and how the evolution of sociality might affect the evolution of behavior and communication.

Veterans Day Observance: November 12

This year, Veterans Day falls on Sunday, November 11, and is therefore observed as a state holiday on Monday, November 12, in accordance with NYS attendance rules. Classes are scheduled on Monday, November 12, and the college will be open. Department heads and supervisors should communicate to their classified and professional employees whether they will be required to work on that day.

For employees who are required to work, the following state attendance rules will apply:

Classified employees who work on November 12 will be compensated according to their holiday waiver status. Those who have not elected to waive additional money for holiday work will receive holiday pay per their bargaining unit agreements. Employees who have elected to waive additional money for holiday work will receive compensatory time off instead of additional holiday pay. Classified employees who wish to inquire about their current holiday waiver status may call the Payroll Office at 878-4124.

UUP-represented and M/C employees who are eligible to observe holidays and are required to work on November 12 will be granted a compensatory day off. The compensatory day off should be scheduled at a time agreeable to the employee and his or her supervisor within one year of the holiday.

Employees who are not required to work and choose not to work on November 12 do not need to charge leave accruals for that day.

Tell Students: Volunteer Opportunity - September 28

Students, are you seeking volunteer hours? Are you looking to connect with local entrepreneurs and officials? The Buffalo State Small Business Development Center is seeking volunteers to help out at an upcoming event titled "Big Opportunities for Small Business" on Friday, September 28, from 8:00 a.m. to noon. We need up to 10 volunteers to help with the following:

• Registration and Meet and Greet
• Ushering participants to designated meeting rooms and areas
• Ensuring that participants receive the brochure and event materials

Breakfast will be provided to all volunteers. This is a great opportunity to network with local entrepreneurs, government officials, prime contractors, and anchor institutions.
